المظاهرات هي لايصال صوت شعبنا لهذه البلدان وليست لتفريغ بعضنا غضبه بشعارات بلغتنا أو من خلال الاشتباك مع المستفزين أو البوليس، فهذه ليست أخلاقنا ومن يفعل ذلك إما أنه مندس ويتم دفعه من جهة أعداء الكورد أو جاهل، والاثنان يخدمان العدو ضد قضيتنا ويشوهان صورتنا أمام شعب ذلك البلد.
إذا كان دمّك حامي كتير انزل على روجافا ولكن لا تخرب سمعة الكورد في أوروبا. فشعبنا شعب حضاري ولن ينحدر إلى هذه الأعمال التخريبية.

The Wall Street Journal Editorial and Its Implications for the Syrian Kurds

As I have repeatedly noted before, and on the contrary to what it appears to be, the American public and Congress appear to be showing greater interest in the Kurdish question, and Kurdish leaders may wish to consider adjusting their approach to Tom Barrack, a point that Mazloum Abdi in particular may find useful to reflect upon.

The most consequential development today is the editorial in The Wall Street Journal that sharply criticizes Ambassador Tom Barrack’s Syria policy. The Wall Street Journal is a leading voice within conservative and business oriented circles, and its intervention signals a notable shift in mainstream commentary. This development contributes to the ongoing discussion in Washington about United States strategy in Syria.

Bipartisan members of Congress describe the Kurds as allies who were their partners in the fight against ISIS. They emphasize the need for minority protections and link sanctions relief to measurable human rights conditions. Public commentary, including social media discussions and demonstrations, reflects growing concern about the reliability of United States commitments and future of the Kurds.

Within this context, the criticism from The Wall Street Journal carries particular weight. The editorial highlights concerns that Barrack’s approach risks weakening the SDF, accelerating instability, and empowering actors whose interests diverge from those of the United States. It also underscores the danger of policy decisions that appear to align more closely with Ankara’s priorities than with American counterterrorism objectives.

Mazloum Abdi, as commander of the SDF, led the campaign against ISIS at enormous human cost. Barrack, by contrast, has advocated for integrating the SDF into Syrian government structures under terms that many analysts view as harmful to Kurdish self administration. Critics argue that this approach jeopardizes counter ISIS gains, shifts United States policy toward Ankara’s preferences, and overestimates the ability of Syrian government forces to manage ISIS detainees given their record of security failures.

Barrack’s Turkey centered diplomatic posture has also raised concerns among minority communities that continue to face threats and have seen little accountability for past abuses. For these reasons, many observers believe Abdi could benefit from articulating a clearer public position on the implications of Barrack’s policy direction.

Even traditionally conservative voices are now entering the discussion. Former senator and presidential candidate Rick Santorum, who has long supported Kurdish autonomy and criticized Turkish policy, stated today that Barrack’s approach undermines both Kurdish partners and United States regional interests. His remarks reflect a broader bipartisan unease with recent policy shifts.

Abdi carries a substantial leadership burden as the primary representative of Kurdish forces in Syria. Given the rapidly evolving political environment in Washington, a more explicit and strategic engagement from him could help ensure that Kurdish concerns are clearly understood and that supportive actors in the United States are positioned to respond effectively. @highlight

WSJ Editorial: Tom Barrack’s Not-So-Excellent Syrian Adventure

The U.S. envoy abandons the Kurds, jeopardizing the anti-ISIS mission.
What’s the rush in Syria?

It serves no U.S. interest that we can discern for the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to be smashed, and have it happen so fast that the ISIS prisoners it was guarding are left in limbo. Some promptly escaped, leading the U.S. military to intervene Wednesday to begin transferring others to Iraq.

President Trump retains the sanctions leverage to impose a lasting cessation of violence on the Syrian regime of Ahmed al-Sharaa, which has bludgeoned the SDF. But the U.S. hasn’t done so. Policy is being led by Tom Barrack, the U.S. Ambassador to Turkey who still doubles as U.S. envoy to Syria.

Damascus Continues Attacks Despite Ceasefire Agreement

Despite the ceasefire agreement, Damascus-backed factions continue their attacks on Kobani and the al-Aqtan prison in Raqqa.

Simultaneously with the shelling of al-Aqtan prison, which houses ISIS militants, these factions targeted the outskirts of the town of Sarrin and attacked the village of Khrouss, south of Kobani, using heavy weapons and artillery. The entire southern and southwestern countryside of Kobani was also subjected to a barrage of artillery fire, and the shelling continues as of the time of this report.

We are attaching to this statement videos published by accounts affiliated with these factions, documenting the artillery shelling they are carrying out on areas south of Kobani.

This constitutes a violation of the ceasefire for the second consecutive day. Yesterday also saw 22 violations committed by these factions, including attacks on Kobani, Hasakah, and al-Aqtan prison.

In addition to military attacks, Damascus continues its policy of collective punishment by cutting off water and electricity to the city of Kobani and preventing fuel deliveries amidst harsh winter conditions. Simultaneously, it continues to cut off water to the al-Aqtan prison in Raqqa, posing a direct threat to the lives of prisoners and foreshadowing serious humanitarian consequences.

We hold Damascus fully responsible for these ongoing violations and emphasize that the continued targeting of populated areas and sensitive facilities, including detention centers for ISIS members, constitutes a grave threat to security and stability. We also call upon the guarantor states to take immediate and effective measures to halt these violations and ensure full adherence to the ceasefire agreement.

Urgent and serious: The unhinged terrorist gangs of al-Julani, operating under the guise of the so-called Syrian Ministry of Defense, are blowing up the homes of Kurdish civilians in the Kobani countryside with every advance they make on the ground.

We saw this when ISIS occupied the city of Tal Abyad in 2013, and how they were blowing up Kurdish homes and headquarters in the city.
