Statement on Turkish attacks on Kurdistan region

Turkey has intensified its attacks on northern Syria and Rojava recently. In parallel, Turkey has launched a new comprehensive attack on mount Gara of Duhok province in Kurdistan Region of Iraq. This offensive is taking place deep inside the Kurdistan region away from Turkish border area.

The risk posed by Turkish activities in Rojava and KRI is threatening gains of Kurdish people as a whole, disrupting stability in the region, preparing ground for a potential resurgence of ISIS terrorism and is creating a negative impact on the state of the fight against ISIS.

Kurds and other ethnic groups have undertook a great struggle against ISIS and other extremist groups and ideologies and this fight is far from over. Turkey’s attempts of invasion of Kurdistan land is jeopardizing what has been achieved over the course of the fight against terrorism by Kurds and other peoples. Therefore, the SDF considers the attacks on Kurdistan region of Iraq to be of great concern and we once again reiterate that we will continue to take the same stance as in the past against ISIS terrorism and Turkish expansionism in the region.

We call on all parties in the global coalition against ISIS not to remain silent in the face of attrocities and attacks by Turkey that is threatening the stability in our region.
