🇬🇧Banks ‘Afraid to Trade with Ukraine Over Money Laundering & Sanctions’ Fears

UK banks are forcibly closing the accounts of firms that trade with Ukrainian counterparties due to fears of non-compliance with anti-Russian sanctions and suspicions of money laundering.

🇬🇧-🇺🇦 Chamber of Commerce co-chair Bate Toms said British firms are increasingly “afraid to trade with Ukraine from the UK” due to the risk of being de-banked – in a letter to the UK Treasury.

“Conducting even one Ukrainian transaction can lead to an account being closed," Toms lamented. "UK banks generally refuse to open accounts if any Ukrainian trade is contemplated.”

UPDATE: At Least 10 Dead after Plane Crash on Malaysian Highway

Two pilots and six passengers on the light aircraft were killed as well as a driver of a passing car and a motorcyclist, authorities said.

Investigations are underway to establish the cause of the crash.
