European Central Bank VP Warns of Broad Risks in Financial Sector
The ECB is closely monitoring current market tensions and will act to preserve price and financial stability in the euro area if required, VP Luis de Guindos said Saturday.
"...In our view, vulnerabilities in the financial system prevail in the non-bank financial sector, which grew fast and increased its risk-taking during the low interest rate environment," De Guindos told the Ambrosetti business forum in northern Italy.

Oil Prices Soar after Surprise Saudi Production Cuts
The unexpected announcement by OPEC+ to slash their combined output by a further 1.15mn barrels per day threatened to deliver a fresh jolt of inflation to the world’s markets.
WTI surged 8% in early trading and stood above $79 per barrel while Brent crude also🔼 close to 5% as it neared $84.
OPEC+ control roughly 50% of global oil supplies and will reduce their output starting from May until the end of 2023.
Will the US have to forget about ever refilling the strategic oil reserve with prices likely to be $100+ later in the year?

Flipping Out: McDonalds Temporarily Closes US Offices – Prepares for Mass Layoffs
McDonald's has temporarily shut down all US offices as they prepare to deliver layoff messages online to a number of their employees across the country.
‘During the week of April 3, we will communicate key decisions related to roles and staffing levels across the organisation,' McDonald's officials said in a memo.
It's unclear at this time how many employees are set to be laid off, however, CEO Chris Kempczinski said in an email earlier this year there would be 'difficult discussions and decisions ahead’.

Beijing Plans $500mn Undersea Internet Cable Rivalling US-Backed Project
State-owned Chinese telecom firms are developing the subsea fibre-optic internet cable network that would link Asia with the Middle East and Europe.
Known as EMA (Europe-Middle East-Asia), the cable would connect Hong Kong to China’s island province of Hainan, before heading to Singapore, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and France.
The EMA project will directly rival another cable currently being constructed by US firm SubCom LLC – which intends to link Singapore to France, via Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and 6 other countries along the route.
Undersea cables carry more than 95% of all international internet traffic – with Washington concerned Chinese subsea cables could be used to eavesdrop on internet data.
