🇺🇦 Cases of rabies infection have become more frequent in 54th brigade of Ukrainian Armed Forces

At present, the 54th brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is stationed in the Kupyansky district of the Kharkov oblast, where Russian troops can hardly be held back due to the low moral and psychological state of the fighters, as well as difficulties with the supply of food, water and ammunition.

In addition to the above, the 54th OMBR has been hit by a new attack - rabies. Last night, about 10 fighters from the brigade were urgently evacuated to Kharkov to the Emergency Medical Care Hospital named after Professor A.I. Meshchaninov.

The big question is about their rabies infection. How could this have happened?

1️⃣ the source of infection can be dogs (up to 99%), foxes, bats, wolves, cats and small rodents;
2️⃣ the mechanism of transmission can be contact (by bite or blinding, infection is rarely possible by cutting up a dead animal);
3️⃣ it is unlikely, but a dietary route of infection is possible (by eating animals that have fallen ill with rabies).

There are two possibilities here: either the Ukrainian fighters were bitten by rabid dogs (which is highly doubtful), or the soldiers of the 54th ombr killed and ate a rabid dog out of hunger. Given that food and water cannot be regularly delivered to the compound's personnel, this version is quite realistic.

The case has resonance. If the next rabid fighters are admitted to Kharkov hospitals in the near future, our suspicions will have been confirmed. — Ukropski Fresh
