Q216: Three friends check into a hotel room costing £30. They each pay £10.

Later, the hotel realises there was a discount. The room should have cost £25, so the clerk gives £5 to the bellboy to return.

The bellboy, being sneaky, keeps £2 and gives each friend £1 back.

So now:

Each friend paid £9 (since they got £1 back)

£9 × 3 = £27

Bellboy kept £2

£27 + £2 = £29

Where did the missing £1 go since we had £30 to start with?

Did You Know the 1089 Number Trick?

There’s a maths trick that always ends in 1089, no matter what number you start with (as long as you follow one rule).

Here’s how it works:

1️⃣ Pick any 3-digit number where the first digit is bigger than the last. Example: 732
2️⃣ Reverse the number → 237
3️⃣ Subtract the smaller number from the bigger one → 732 − 237 = 495
4️⃣ Reverse your new number → 594
5️⃣ Add the new number and the result of your subtraction together → 495 + 594 = 1089

And just like that… you get 1089. It works every single time. Try it with a different number and watch the magic happen.
