In addition to adopting the title of Shahanshah, Adud al-Dawla also claimed to be a descendant of the Sassanid Shah Bahram Gur. this claim of Sassanid ancestry has been traditionally interpreted as a Buyid claim to Persian roots. Upon closer examination, however, it becomes clear that forging a genealogical link with Bahram Gur was strategic. The Sassanid Shah Bahram Gur symbolized harmony between Arabs and Persians.

The Sassanians were the third or second Persian Empire known as the Sassanid Empire that existed from 226 to 651.

The name Sassanian comes from Sassan, the Great Priest of the Temple of Anahita, an Iranian shrine cult. The son of Sassan, Ardashir, was the founder of Sassanid Empire.

Al-Biruni was born in the Iranian territory of Khwarizm (now in Uzbekistan). He was an Iranian Muslim, best known as an astronomer and mathematician, but deeply interested in Indian (esp. Hindu) society and culture. In addition to his Persian and Arabic languages, he was fluent in Sanskrit and had communication with Indian scholars.

Ardeshir won in a hand-to-hand combat.he claimed the title of "King of Kings."

The Sassanians claimed to be the descendants of the Achaemenians whose name carried a great deal of weight among the Iranians. The Parthians, who were also Iranians, never gained the prestigious position of the Achaemenians.

the Umayyads who were, among other misdeeds, accused of discriminating against converts to Islam and in favor of Muslim Arabs. An organized opposition to the Umayyads was formed that comprised both Iranian and non-Iranian, especially in Khorasan, the Iranian northeast. The Tahirid Dynasty was an Iranian Persian dynasty that ruled over the northeastern part of Greater Iran, in the region of Khorasan. The Tahirid capital was Nishapur. Although, nominally subject to the Abbasid Caliphate, they were effectively independent. The dynasty was founded by Tahir ibn Husayn, a leading general in the service of the Abbasid caliph al-Mamun. Tahir's military victories were rewarded with the gift of lands in the east of Persia.

Yaqub ibn Layth al Saffar was the first ruler to unite Persians as Shi'ites. A popular hero in Iranian history, Yaqub is credited with starting a great resurgence of Iranian culture.
