On December 22, 1920, the VIII All-Russian Congress of Soviets opened, adopting a plan for the electrification of Russia – the GOELRO plan
The initiator and inspiration of the GOELRO plan was V.I.Lenin. To draw up the plan, a state commission was created, which included over 200 of the best Russian engineers and scientists, headed by G.M.Krzhizhanovsky.
By December 1920, the commission had completed its work. The Congress, held on December 22-29, 1920, approved the GOELRO plan. In his report to the congress, Lenin, calling the GOELRO plan the second program of the party, put forward a brilliant formula:
Lenin ended his historic speech to thunderous applause from the congress delegates with the following words:
The GOELRO plan was calculated for 10-15 years and provided for a radical reconstruction of the national economy based on electrification.
The plan envisaged the construction of 30 regional power plants (20 thermal, 10 hydraulic) with a total capacity of 1,750,000 kW. Based on electrification, a radical technical re-equipment of all branches of industry, transport and agriculture was envisaged, and the task was set of transforming Russia from an agrarian country into an industrial one.
The implementation of GOELRO began under the direct leadership of Lenin. At the cost of enormous effort in the conditions of civil war and economic collapse, the construction of the firstborns of socialist electrification was carried out - the Shaturskaya, Kashiraskaya GRES and the Volhov Hydroelectric Power Station.
GOELRO was fulfilled in terms of its main indicators by the minimum deadline for which it was designed (1931), and by 1935 it was significantly overfulfilled in all main indicators. Instead of 30 district power plants, 40 were built. They were equipped with modern power equipment that corresponded to the level of advanced technology of that time. Every year, the centralisation of electricity production and the capacity of district power plants increased. Already in 1935, 13 power plants with a unit capacity of 100,000 kW or more were operating. By this time, the USSR took second place in Europe and third in the world in this indicator.
H.G.Wells, who visited Russia again in 1934, was struck by the changes. The plan that had once seemed pure fantasy to him had been overfulfilled, and the country, having overcome the "gloom," was accelerating the pace of economic transformation.
The development of electric power engineering in the USSR did not stop there. Already in 1947, after the most terrible and destructive war in the history of mankind, the Great Patriotic War, the USSR took 1st place in Europe and 2nd in the world in this indicator.
Every year, 10 million kW of new power capacities were put into operation - almost six times more than the GOELRO plan for 10-15 years. By the end of the 1980s, the world's largest Unified Energy System was created in the USSR, which was considered a special electric power complex of interconnected systems that functioned inseparably and developed at an accelerated pace (compared to other sectors of the economy) in accordance with the needs of society. Its successful development and operation was possible only under the conditions of socialisation of the fuel and energy complex (FEC) sectors, related mechanical engineering sectors and transport systems.
After decree of Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 23, 1966, on December 22, the USSR celebrated a professional holiday – «Power Engineer’s Day»

“Communism is Soviet power plus electrification of the entire country. Without an electrification plan, we cannot move on to real construction... Only when the country is electrified, when the technical base of modern large-scale industry is provided for industry, agriculture and transport, only then will we finally win.”
Lenin ended his historic speech to thunderous applause from the congress delegates with the following words:
“ ...if Russia is covered with a dense network of electric stations and powerful technical equipment, then our economic communist construction will become a model for the future socialist Europe and Asia."

Inspiring speech by a young member of our party. The youth must be helped to free themselves of the dead end hedonism that presents itself as ‘youth culture’ or ‘working class culture’ and mobilised instead to fight for a decent future for themselves and for all the generations to follow.
In the process they will discover that the truest form of ‘self actualisation’ comes not from mindless consumption or navel-gazing identitarianism, which only deepen our alienation, but from meaningful work in service of humanity.

Hitler salutes and Nazi nostalgia: fascists mobilized en masse across the West in 2024. Here’s a chilling look back at the most vile expressions of fascism this year, as it crawls out from the shadows and takes center stage in the political mainstream.
From parliamentary gains to the rise of anti-migration rhetoric, the far right is reclaiming ground. As the capitalist crisis deepens, fascist forces are gathering momentum, riding the wave of a dangerous right-wing resurgence.

Thousands rallied near the residence of impeached Republic of Korea (ROK) President Yoon Suk Yeol. Just hours before the detention warrant tied to Yoon’s brief martial law declaration was set to expire, the ROK’s Corruption Investigation Office for High-Ranking Officials (CIO) urged police to take over efforts to detain him.
Security officials installed barbed wire within the residence’s compound and erected barricades as protests—both opposing and supporting Yoon—continued outside.
The request follows the CIO’s failed attempt to arrest Yoon last week after a five-hour standoff with the presidential security service at his residence. Police are reviewing the request internally and noted that the CIO may seek a new court warrant to extend the detention deadline.

Cement Production Goes up in DPRK
Pyongyang, January 2 (KCNA) -- The Sangwon Cement Complex in the DPRK has produced much more cement than planned from the outset of the new year.
The complex has directed efforts to ensuring the normal operation of production systems at all units in order to carry out the plan set higher than last year.
Workers and technicians of the central control room and the first calcinating workshop have made successes from the outset of the new year by operating and managing the furnaces in a responsible manner and taking necessary measures.
The cement workshop made a contribution to carrying out the plan by applying the efficient working method and closely coordinating between shifts.
Workers of the combined raw material workshop and the coal-grinding workshop improved the rate of equipment by ensuring the granulation of raw materials.

Everybody realises that when people who have not yet rid themselves of Trotskyist trends are called "Lefts," it is meant ironically. Lenin referred to the "Left Communists" as Lefts sometimes with and sometimes without quotation marks. But everyone realises that Lenin called them Lefts ironically, thereby emphasising that they were Lefts only in words, in appearance, but that in reality they represented petty-bourgeois Right trends.

Update on Recent Developments in Tishreen Dam
Turkish warplanes have conducted multiple airstrikes on the Tishreen Dam and its surrounding areas. These attacks coincide with ground attack by Turkish-backed mercenary factions on villages located north of the Tishreen Dam and southeast of Manbij. Intense clashes are ongoing between the Manbij Military Council forces and the mercenary groups.
The mercenary attacks are supported by Turkish aerial bombardments using warplanes and UCAVs, as well as heavy artillery shelling. The clashes are continuing across multiple axes.
In Kobani, Turkish UCAVs targeted a civilian car in the village of Girik, as well as the village of Aslanki, located south of Kobani, subjected to artillery shelling.
The risk of a catastrophic collapse of the Tishreen Dam is increasing. The Turkish state will bear full responsibility for any disaster that may occur at the Dam or other areas in Syria due to the ongoing Turkish air and artillery strikes. These attacks reached a peak intensity earlier this morning and are continuing at this time.

🇺🇸🇯🇵 US airman jailed for kidnapping, sexually assaulting teen girl in Japan
A US air force member stationed in Okinawa prefecture was sentenced to five years in prison on Friday on charges of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 16 in December last year.
The Naha District Court handed down the ruling on Brennon Washington, 25, who had pleaded not guilty. The case not only triggered fresh anti-base sentiment in the prefecture, but also drew attention as local police and the central government did not disclose the incident to the prefectural government.
It was only in June this year, three months after his indictment, that the case came to light through a local media report, sparking protests from the prefectural government.
