May 23, 2023: Red Hat turns its software supply chain practices into products
Trusted Software Supply Chain, an offering that consists of two new cloud services called Red Hat Trusted Application Pipeline and Red Hat Trusted Content
A 2022 analysis of more than 2,400 commercial code bases by Synopsys Inc. found that 97% contained open-source components and 81% had at least one vulnerability. Nearly nine in 10 applications included components that had not been updated in more than two years
Trusted Application Pipeline is based on Sigstore, an automated approach to digitally signing and checking software components to verify origins and authenticity that its developers say is nearly impossible to sabotage. Red Hat Trusted Content, which will be available as a service preview within a few weeks, will provide real-time knowledge of known vulnerabilities and security risks within open-source software dependencies. It will also suggest ways to minimize risk and provide access to Red Hat-built and curated open-source software using the company’s internal best practices
Noting that supply chain attacks have skyrocketed by more than 740% annually over the past three years, Red Hat said it will provide a catalog of more than 10,000 trusted packages that run on Red Hat Enterprise Linux alone as well as a catalog of critical application runtimes across Java, Node and Python ecosystems➡️ ➡️ Red Hat will become the new global standard in supply chain software (I would also bet that Red Hat has been indirectly working with KillNet, Sudan, and other hackers to provide the impetus for this)
Red Hat is also launching Advanced Cluster Security Cloud Service that delivers security capabilities native to the Kubernetes software container orchestrator as a managed cloud service. Kubernetes are platforms that can manage SBOMs to protect against supply chain attacks. It supports Red Hat OpenShift on private and public clouds as well as Kubernetes services across major cloud providers, including Amazon Web Services Inc.’s Elastic Kubernetes Service, Google LLC’s Kubernetes Engine and Microsoft Corp.’s Azure Kubernetes Service

What is an SBOM? Software bill of materials explained
SBOMs are increasingly being used to protect against supply chain attacks and were cited in the Biden Administration’s May 2021 Executive Order on Improving the Nation’s Cybersecurity as critical to securing software supply chains
Software bill of materials help vendors and buyers alike keep track of software components for better software supply chain security. Modern applications are often built on top of extensive code reuse, often using open source libraries. These applications are also increasingly broken into smaller, self-contained components of functionality known as containers, managed by container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes and running locally or in the cloud
The 2020s so far have been marked by a string of headline-making software supply chain attacks. In late 2020, hackers affiliated with Russian intelligence managed to plant backdoors into a network monitoring platform from SolarWinds—a platform that is used in turn by other security products, all of which ended up compromised. And late in 2021, a severe vulnerability was discovered in a Apache Log4j, a Java library used for logging system events, which sounds boring until you realize that almost every Java application uses Log4j in some capacity, rendering them all targets
These security crises illustrate the role that an SBOM can serve in the security landscape

May 23, 2023: Red Hat unveils Ansible Lightspeed to empower AI-driven IT automation
Open-source solutions firm Red Hat today unveiled Ansible Lightspeed, a generative AI service integrated with IBM Watson Code Assistant
Red Hat utilizes natural language processing (NLP) to integrate the service with Watson Code Assistant, which is set to be available in the near future. Ansible Lightspeed allows users to rapidly construct automation code by harnessing IBM’s foundation models. According to the company, this integration offers a valuable solution for enterprises, as it addresses the skills gap and enhances efficiency, thereby expediting the time-to-value of automation
The foundation model optimized for NLP is the cornerstone of the collaboration between Red Hat and IBM, distinguishing Ansible Lightspeed from other tools
Furthermore, users can actively contribute to the model’s training by providing valuable feedback and ensuring continuous enhancements
💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥
Ansible automation within organizations will streamline task automation for beginners while freeing experienced automators from the arduous task of creating low-level tasks. It caters to users who have a deep understanding of what needs to be accomplished but lack the YAML proficiency to craft compliant and efficient playbooks independently➡️ ➡️ therefore this removes iterative tasks and previously-required technical skills from the job requirement and frees up people to focus on creative solutions instead
💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥 💥
📝 This uses generative AI from IBM’s foundation model trained on a specific domain (Ansible), to help people create automation faster. Existing subject matter experts will be much more efficient by filling out a lot of the repetitive pieces of code as they’re creating an automation playbook, which is ultimately YAML code. This accelerates their ability to generate that a lot faster. Ansible Lightspeed makes existing subject matter experts far more efficient by doing a lot of the work for them

May 23, 2023: Red Hat Summit 2023: The Biggest Announcements
Ansible Lightspeed with IBM Watson Code Assistant, the Red Hat Developer Hub and Red Hat Trusted Application Pipeline and Trusted Content are some of the biggest announcements to come out of Red Hat Summit 2023
Red Hat: 7,000 channel partners worldwide, 1,500 of them in North America
IBM: 55,000 channel partners worldwide, 12,000 of them in North America
(A channel partner is a company that partners with a manufacturer or producer to market and sell the manufacturer’s products, services, or technologies. This is usually done through a co-branding relationship)
June 2023, Red Hat will make an open beta available for Ansible Lightspeed with IBM Watson Code Assistant, a generative artificial intelligence (AI) service for Red Hat’s Ansible automation offering. Lightspeed promises more consistent, more accurate and faster automation adoption across organizations. It uses natural language processing and integrates with Watson Code Assistant to access IBM Foundation Models built on Red Hat OpenShift. Ansible users gain the ability to input prompts in plain English and more easily translate domain expertise into Yaml code for making and editing playbooks, according to Red Hat➡️ ➡️ this sounds just like SEP11 which is one of the most significant developments in Stellar because SEP11 makes Stellar a truly Open Source DEX since anyone can use it to create and interpret transactions (like mint a token, send/receive/trade, audit the ledger, troubleshoot scripts, eventually even built smart contracts). May 25, 2023: CEO Matt Hicks On Red Hat Layoffs, IBM’s Open Source Vision
📝 [Layoffs are] a healthy thing that you have to do every once in awhile to make sure you’re putting investment in the right areas that are going to help you keep being successful with customers
📝 Being really thoughtful about making sure you can invest in that opportunity is critical. So for us, it was a rebalancing move
📝 We’re in this moment of AI. We have this impact on developer and operations efficiency and security. We need to be able to put enough in engineering and in sales to be able to take advantage of that to help customers move forward and adopt that
📝 So I can’t speak to other companies of whether that was their stance, but that was our intent with it

DBS Singaporean bank was a successful beta for Red Hat's quantum scalability and interoperability
June 1, 2023: Transforming the Future of Banking Through Cloud and Open-Source Technologies
The banking sector has undergone a significant transformation thanks to the introduction of cloud and open-source technologies. Previously, banks relied on legacy systems and proprietary software, resulting in operations being siloed, scalability being limited, and high costs. However, with the advent of cloud and open-source technologies, banks can adopt a more agile and collaborative approach to innovation
Two significant aspects characterize DBS’s journey toward digital transformation:
- building an open ecosystem, which has helped create synergy between business processes and services
- DBS has become “digital to the core” by leveraging digital technology like multi-hybrid cloud adoption
➡️ ➡️ this is confirmation that DBS is using generative AI for automation and will be winding down the need for employees due to machine learning 🔥 🔥 🔥
DBS has set the foundation for growth and scalability by adopting a cloud-first strategy. The move to a hybrid, multi-cloud infrastructure has resulted in greater resiliency, scalability, and reduced infrastructure costs. DBS uses Red Hat OpenShift and Kubernetes to handle burst loads in the public cloud, enabling the bank to access native services provided by public cloud platforms unavailable on-premises
As DBS evolves into a different kind of bank, the organisation recognizes the need to do things differently in the operations area. By leveraging technology, DBS has enabled its operations staff to access systems from anywhere, performing their functions seamlessly as if they were in the office➡️ ➡️ this is setting up the public narrative for a fully automated transition where staff is no longer needed 😬 😊

June 2, 2023: Building a high performance 5G network architecture with an open hybrid cloud
Latency, the enemy of speed, can be greatly reduced by moving the applications out of the data center and as close to the device or customer as possible—this is the edge (https://t.me/RedHatDecode/39 & https://t.me/RedHatDecode/40)
In addition to an evolving architecture, service provider networks are moving from virtual network function (VNF) deployments—typically software, virtual machine (VM)-based versions of proprietary hardware-based approaches—to cloud-native network functions (CNFs) that utilize container-based architectures and microservices➡️ ➡️ this is Red Hat 🫶
Red Hat provides all the products and services necessary for a service provider to deploy a 5G core and RAN cloud platform in support of their 5G network transformation. Products, services and an enhanced support offering are aligned to a pre-integrated reference architecture that allows service providers to deploy a fully tested and interoperable solution. Additionally, Red Hat works closely with ecosystem partners to test and certify their network service workloads on this reference architecture➡️ ➡️ by setting themselves up as the industry's gold standard, Red Hat becomes the default service every company uses for their migration to 5G 🔥 🆒 🔥
Red Hat services:
- Advanced Cluster Management for Kubernetes for cluster management and control
- Ansible Automation Platform for the implementation of automation
- Identity Management (part of Red Hat Enterprise Linux) for centralized identity and access control
- AMQ for application integration
- Satellite for system management and operations
- Quay for the registry and content repository and the service telemetry framework for the collection of monitoring data
- OpenShift Data Foundation for software-defined storage can also be included
OpenShift can be deployed in different footprints to meet demanding requirements in space and power-constrained environments. Regardless of which deployment option is chosen, the same consistent experience is maintained with the same set of tools➡️ ➡️ covers all tech from outdated industrial equipment to retail mobile/home use devices to high tech and space equipment

June 5, 2023: Red Hat says it will drop LibreOffice from RHEL and Fedora
Open source vendor Red Hat has decided to drop the free office suite LibreOffice from its distributions — the commercial RHEL and the community Fedora offerings — as it is “short of developer hours to maintain the suite” (aka the public narrative is that packages for LibreOffice had already been orphaned, meaning that there was nobody maintaining and updating them)
But this is not true -- not at all!!!😨 😱 😊
Behind the scenes, RH engineers are working to upgrade it as a longterm desktop app solution and have also invited another veteran ninja team (The Document Foundation) to take over the maintenance on LibreOffice, which announced on June 14 that its next major release will be in August and they are also hosting a conference in Bucharest in September. They also hinted at migrating everyone from Apache OpenOffice into LibreOffice 💣💥 💥💥

So who is this other Veteran Ninja Team partnering with LibreOffice?
⚡️ Thunderbird⚡️
the internet storm is coming...
Why is this important to pay attention to?
🙏 Libre = "Free"
🕊 Thunderbird = Mozilla = Firefox

Here is a snippet:
📝 The open, global internet is the most powerful communication and collaboration resource we have ever seen. It embodies some of our deepest hopes for human progress. It enables new opportunities for learning, building a sense of shared humanity, and solving the pressing problems facing people everywhere.
📝 Over the last decade we have seen this promise fulfilled in many ways. We have also seen the power of the internet used to magnify divisiveness, incite violence, promote hatred, and intentionally manipulate fact and reality. We have learned that we should more explicitly set out our aspirations for the human experience of the internet. We do so now
🤯 🤯 🤯 🤯 🤯 🤯 🤯 🤯 🤯 🤯
Red Hat is stepping away from LibreOffice so LibreOffice can partner with Mozilla Foundation that is working on the same goals for a liberated people free from corruption, except they are doing it on desktop apps, whereas RH focuses on cloud and hybrid cloud computing!
So whether no matter which country, which device, which platform, which service provider, which products you use or which products you create, which servers, which anything... IBM via Red Hat & Mozilla have governance over it all....

June 7, 2023: Singapore launches AI Verify Foundation to shape the future of international AI standards through collaboration
📝 The AI Verify Foundation is an important step in ensuring that AI is used for good and that its benefits are shared by everyone. Its work will help to promote transparency and accountability in AI development, and to ensure that AI systems are fair, unbiased, and safe
- Michaela Browning, VP Government Affairs & Public Policy, APAC, Google
Mrs Josephine Teo, Singapore’s Minister for Communications and Information announced the launch of the AI Verify Foundation to harness the collective power and contributions of the global open source community to develop AI testing tools for the responsible use of AI. The launch of AI Verify Foundation will support the development and use of AI Verify to address risks of AI. AI Verify is an AI governance testing framework and software toolkit
7 pioneering premier members that will guide the strategic directions and development of AI Verify roadmap:
- IBM
- Red Hat
- Microsoft
- Google
- Salesforce
- Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA)
- Aicadium (Temasek’s AI Centre of Excellence)
As a start, the Foundation will have also have more than 60 general members such as Adobe, DBS, Meta, SenseTime and Singapore Airlines
Launched as a minimum viable product for international pilot last year, AI Verify attracted the interest of over 50 local and multinational companies including IBM, Dell, Hitachi and UBS
AI Verify is now available to the open source community and will benefit the global community by providing a testing framework and toolkit that is consistent with internationally recognised AI governance principles, e.g., those from EU, OECD, and Singapore. The AI Verify toolkit provides an integrated interface to generate testing reports that covers different governance principles for an AI system
😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀
It enables companies to be more transparent about their AI by sharing these reports with their stakeholders➡️ ➡️ this means all the beta testing last year was done under NDA which is why no one could find proofs of it, but now these AIML testing/deployment updates will finally become more publicly available for everyone to verify
