Brigid is the daughter of Dagda, Goddess of healing, child birth, smiths, passion, and fire (making her goddess of warfare, as well).
Her cult is known as the "brigands", due to her name also being "Briginda", Brigdu, and Brigit.
She was also one of Bres's wives, the half-Fomorian ruler of the Tuatha Dé Danann.
Their son, Ruadan, wounded the smith god Giobhniu at the second battle of Magh Tuireadh but he himself was slain in the combat. Brigid then went to the battlefield to mourn her son. This was said to be the first caoine (keening), or lament, heard in Ireland.
The 1st and 2nd of February is her celebration, known as Imbolc.
