Often caricatured as blundering fools in modern Ireland the Irish Brigade received overwhelming public and political support in Ireland on both sides of civil war divide in their fight against the descent of Spain into anti-Christian anarchy.

Following the war Edward Murphy returned home to Wexford and his job as a farm laborer and fathered 15 kids passing away only in 2007 three years after the release of this documentary.

President de Valera addressed a joint session of Congress during a state visit to the USA and Canada. In the course of his 20-minute speech, he traced the history of the Irish struggle and payed a high tribute to the United States in the continuing fight for freedom throughout the world. De Valera recalled the welcome that the late President Kennedy was given in Ireland "... because he was regarded by our people as the symbol of this great nation, because he was the President elected of this great people".
