This is @MichealMartinTD's atrocious response to Aontu's @Toibin1 criticising #TUSLA. During the exchange Tobin laid out truly alarming facts (see below).

Referring to TUSLA as inept (an understatement) Martin responds by saying this is unfair criticism and is "judgemental".

Should state bodies who are failing vulnerable children not be judged?

Rather than take responsibility, as leaders are meant to do, the Tanaiste (who doesn't even feign shock or concern), feels a 'YES' vote in the referendum on March 8th will help make children feel more of a "sense of belonging" (through The Constitution). A panacea for their woes.

Because THAT'S what matters to children... not love, safety, security, or protection from exploitation and abuse.

In his responses, Martin makes it permissible for @tusla to abdicate its duty. As it is, it has outsourced this duty of care to private companies, including an American multinational. I realised this last year after looking deeper into the probable reasons why there was delayed reporting of girls being raped by grooming gangs. I surmised lucrative contacts being on the line are the reason...

In outsourcing its "in loco parentis" role to these companies, who favour profit over background checks or child protection, TUSLA puts children at risk.

These minors often end up in care in the first instance as a result of serious systemic societal issues, created by and perpetuated by the government (poverty etc).

Many of these are Irish but many are migrants. Trafficking centres are ripe for creating depression, stress and psychological issues in both parents and children.

It's abnormal to grow up institutionalised in a one room settings with your parents. No privacy, a lack of a normal home environment are problematic.

There are usually no means through which children can even experience proper family meals cooked by parents. Children are put at risk by being placed in settings with men who are not vetted. In the City West Centre children queue up alone with anonymous adult men to use the communal shower facilities.

The @IrishRefugeeCo CEO @NickHenderson16 wrote to @rodericogorman, citing his deep concern about lack of vetting, but when mothers and fathers in Irish communities complain, he calls it racism.

Children in trafficking centres will grow up with issues. The same is true for Irish children in emergency accommodation. Regardless of most parents doing their best for their children in these settings. This reality will affect us all. We cannot live in a vacuum, and having less and less functioning adults in our society in the future will have an effect that will permeate every aspect of civil society.

TUSLA must be dismantled and "public private" partnerships with greedy profiteers need to end. Anyone who is tasked with looking after the vulnerable, should be not allowed to do so when their primary goal is to make money.

Facts put to Martin:

CHILDREN PLACED INTO TUSLA EMERGENCY CARE ARE OFTEN PUT ALONE IN RENTED APARTMENTS WITH UNVETTED STAFF.

TUSLA DO NOT KEEP ANY RECORD OF NUMBERS OF CHILDREN SEXUALLY ABUSED IN STATE CARE.

OVER 200 CHILDREN DIED IN STATE CARE IN TEN YEARS.

38 OF THOSE TOOK THEIR OWN LIVES.

SOME WERE VICTIMS OF MURDER.

SEVERAL HUNDRED CHILDREN ARE MISSING FROM STATE CARE.

SOME HAVE FALLEN PREY TO TRAFFICKERS.

APPROXIMATELY 90,000 CHILDREN ARE REFERRED TO TUSLA ANNUALLY.

THERE HAD BEEN AN INCREASE OF 28 % IN A 2 YEAR PERIOD.

THIS IS 256 AN HOUR OR 10 AN HOUR.

A JUDGE WROTE TO RODERIC O GORMAN ABOUT SERIOUS CONCERNS HE HAD FOR CHILDREN IN STATE CARE, HE SENT 4 FILES REGARDING 4 CHILDREN.

3 FILES WERE DELETED BY THE MINISTER, HE QUOTED GDPR, YET ALL FILES WERE ANNONIMISED.

JUDGE DERMOT SIMMS WAS REPORTED TO HIS SENIORS FOR HIGHLIGHTING CONCERNS.
