The Legend of Cรบ Chulainn

The legend of Cรบ Chulainn is one of the greatest in Irish mythology. He is noted in Irish mythical sagas for his superhuman strength and amazing deeds on the battlefield. His story was originally passed down by word of mouth, until it was written down more than 800 years ago in the Tรกin Bรณ Cรบailnge. The story is so powerful that it is still taught in schools and written about today.

This version is told by the late great Ronnie Drew of The Dubliners

Fomorians - The Giants of Celtic Myth
An explanation of the nature of the Fomorians, how they differ from Greek Titans and how they are cognate with Giants from Norse and Greek myth.

My pronunciation for names, etc is aiming towards Scottish Gaelic.

Winter solstice is the time when light is born out of the womb of winter's darkness. Every year, on or around 21 December, the rising Sun fills the Fairies' mansion in the morning, just as the setting Sun fills the Cailleach of Bearla's house in the evening.

It is the time of the longest night, but also the beginning of the Sun's long journey back towards the south.

Rituals for welcoming back the Sun date from the dawn of civilization, with Newgrange being the oldest man-made monument on the planet.

The exact nature of early Celtic celebrations are not known, because the church of Rome began over laying their birth of the Son over the Celtic Church's birth of the Sun by the 4th century. Even then, up until relatively recently the "church fathers" had to continually remind believers that they were supposed to be celebrating the birth of the Son, not the Sun; because many of the same customs carried on as they had for thousands of years, and for the same reason: to banish the dark and welcome back the light.

A Christmas message to all who love her.

There is an ancient land,
Shattered by the waves,
Blessed by the light,
A land where nature rains,
Above the future and the past,
