Because the Celts of bygone days have always been aware of the invisible as well as the visible worlds, they did not share the common notion of today of death as total separation.
In Celtic worldview time is an endless, connecting thread that enables the living to feel the wise and loving presence of our ancestors, who care as deeply about their descendants as a living family would.
They weep with us when we are troubled and celebrate our good fortune.
In early times people sought their advice by ritually fasting and sleeping on their graves in hopes of meeting with them in their dreams.
As late as the 16th century, the chieftain Hugh O'Neil encamped his entire army on a burial mound before battle to gain the assistance of the spirits of the mighty dead who dwell within.
May our ancestors forgive us for taking the inheritance that they left us for granted.
May they strengthen us and guide us and bring us victory.
