Uma das cientistas mais renomadas de Israel, a química e primeira israelense a receber um prêmio Nobel, Ada Yonath, faleceu hoje (31), aos 87 anos.

Nascida em Jerusalém, Ada trabalhava no Instituto Weizmann de Ciências, no Departamento de Biologia Estrutural e Química, onde foi pioneira no estudo do ribossomo, estrutura celular responsável pela produção de proteínas.

A cientista recebeu o Nobel de Química em 2009 por suas pesquisas que ajudaram a revelar o funcionamento do ribossomo e contribuíram para o desenvolvimento de tratamentos contra bactérias resistentes a antibióticos.

Sua memória jamais seja esquecida.

More than 10 million people worldwide suffer from inflammatory bowel disease - conditions like Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis that cause chronic inflammation, pain, and in severe cases, hospitalization or surgery. Most current treatments target the immune system. But what if that's been addressing the wrong thing entirely?

Researchers at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel have discovered that the tissue surrounding intestinal cells - not just the immune system - retains a lasting "memory" of past inflammation, and can trigger the disease to return even after patients appear to have recovered. Crucially, the team identified a specific protein called collagen 18 as a key driver of this process - and found that blocking it in mice prevented chronic inflammation from developing.

Among the more than 1,000 victims of the October 7, 2023, Hamas massacre in southern Israel was Dan Ariel (22), a beloved son and brother.

Dan was attending the Nova Festival with his friends in southern Israel when the attack began.

As the horrific Hamas massacre unfolded, Dan and his friends left the festival and took refuge in a roadside shelter.

Hamas terrorists soon began hurling grenades into the shelter, wounding Dan. Later, additional terrorists arrived and opened fire on those inside, brutally murdering him.

This is only one of countless heart-shattering stories from Hamas’ massacre.
