I try to apply a three replies rule, as someone who has a bad habit of getting into stupid online arguments. If, by my third reply, they're still completely unwilling to even see another perspective, I drop it. It's not worth your time, it's not worth theirs, and it's not gonna be worth the time of whoever might be reading.

My current working theory is that most of that sort actually do believe in that sort of thing, and just haven't really examined why they're pretty okay with what the government in practice so long as it doesn't affect their business
