This read is more for Virginia folk, but let me summarize the (baffling) national implications:
-The Transportation Secretary has published a memo about which parts of the country to prioritize for transit funding. They specifically say to prioritize funding for areas with higher birth and marriage rates.
-additionally, the memo suspends federal transport funding for states with "mask and vaccine mandates" there is already conversation about whether or not that means *just* covid-era mandates, or all vaccine mandates, such as those commonly required for things like chickenpox.
-Ironically enough, the birth/marriage rate half of these policies hit rural and typically red areas the hardest, because they tend to have older populations, who are less likely to marry and have children.
