You Don’t Need to Move to Amsterdam to be Happy
We visited the Netherlands recently and had a lot of fun. It’s a cool country that lines up well with our interests in cycling and urbanism, and if you regularly watch our channel, you’d probably enjoy visiting too. But while we took home some lessons and…

'Once we accept without any reflection or criticism that we live in a “grow-or-die” capitalistic society in which accumulation is literally a law of economic survival and competition is the motor of “progress,” anything we have to say about population is basically meaningless. The biosphere will eventually be destroyed whether five billion or fifty million live on the planet.
Competing firms in a “dog-eat-dog” market must outproduce each other if they are to remain in existence. They must plunder the soil, remove the earth’s forests, kill off its wildlife, pollute its air and waterways not because their intentions are necessarily bad, although they usually are — hence the absurdity of the spiritualistic pablum in which Americans are currently immersed — but because they must simply survive.'

Oh, also worth noting: Population growth is, paradoxically, driven by poor economic circumstance. This is because of factors such as reduced access to contraception, worse social safety nets necessitating children, etc. Not only is capitalist greed limiting access to food and homes, it's creating the circumstances needed for explosive growth, exacerbating the issues it creates.
Capitalism creates issues that movements like fascism exist to "cure." I'm going to tell you right now that the elite are going to try to introduce fascist policies to fix capitalist-manufactured "overpopulation" (blaming rising populations for disproportionate scacity of resources) rather than treat the underlying causes, i.e. hoarding of material wealth.
Don't be fooled by their rhetoric.
