*CIRCUMSTANTIAL MESSAGES*

1Corinthians 2: 1- 2
And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. *(KJV)*

A man becomes saved by hearing the gospel of Christ preached to him. The gospel of Christ is the message of the love of God demonstrated through the death and resurrection of Christ from death for our sin. After salvation, spiritual growth becomes the next thing. Spiritual growth comes by knowing who you have becomes in Christ, what you have in Christ and what Christ can do through you. It is this message of the gospel or the knowledge of our blessings in Christ that makes our minds renew to maturity in Christ to produce fruit consistent with who we have become in Christ.

Circumstantial messages are messages that address the natural temporal circumstances of men. Such circumstances are people’s financial, employment, political, family, professional, academic, health, etc. state on condition. Messages such as how to start a business, entrepreneurial skills development, how to get a husband etc. These messages are not bad in themselves but they are not the gospel nor brings about spiritual growth. Such messages do not produce edification for everybody. For instance, messages on poverty will not edify the rich.

Jesus on earth met human needs but meeting human needs was not his message. The focus of the church is to produce spiritual growth in believers. When believers are mature with the mindset of Christ, they are led by the Spirit to make the right choices in life. Raising big businessmen, very rich and successful professionals are not the main purpose of the church. The church is not a certified institution for teaching business management. The church is for teaching Christ and not for motivational talks.

*IT’S THANKSGIVING!*

And out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of them that make merry: and I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small *(Jeremiah 30:19)*

If you look into your life and the receding year in retrospect, you’d find that the Lord has been so gracious and kind; His love, mercy, and grace have seen us through a very remarkable year. Therefore, in celebrating all that He’s done for you, there’re four important things to do in your gratitude and appreciation.

The first is the prayer of thanksgiving: Pray a prayer of thanksgiving from your heart to the Lord today, appreciating Him for a most successful year. As you pray, express yourself in thanksgiving; let it flow freely from your heart.

Secondly, offer Him the worship and praise of thanksgiving. There’s a prayer of thanksgiving, and there’s also a worship of thanksgiving, where you’re full of praise, exuberant and ecstatic with praise from your spirit.

The third is your testimony of thanksgiving, where you tell of what He’s done in your life. Here, you’re not thinking about what you seemingly *“didn’t get”* or the goal you set to achieve by the end of the year that didn’t quite pull through; rather, you’re grateful for the joy of the Lord that’s in your heart. You’re thankful for the foundation of your spirit; the foundation of faith that God gave you! You’re thankful for the hope in your spirit. There’re people who are never hopeful for the future, but God gave you hope. So, testify in thanksgiving of these and other blessings of God in your life.

The fourth is to give an offering in thanksgiving. Give the Lord a special thanksgiving offering today, and project yourself into the greater future He’s planned for you. Make your mark today in thanking Him specially, and let the whole day be full of joy for you. Carry the atmosphere of thanksgiving with you home from the Church.

At designated times of the day, have praise and thanksgiving sessions on your own, or with your family. Make it an entire day of praise and thanksgiving, because you’re grateful for all that Christ is to you, and has accomplished on your behalf.

"Live under the protection of God Most High and stay in the shadow of God All-Powerful" *(Psalm 91:1 CEV).*

The New King James Version of the Bible renders Psalm 91:1 as *"He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty"* (Psalm 91:1). The secret place of the Most High isn't a building or temple built with hands; it's Christ, and that's where you live. He's your protection. The Bible says your life is hidden with Christ in God (Colossians 3:3), which means you have twenty-four hour protection! It's round the clock. You're protected in Him because He's become your *"citadel"* in which you live (Psalm 48:2-3). *Hallelujah!*

The presence of God, and His light where you live, is a high place---far above all the evil and darkness in the world. Therefore, walk through life with boldness, knowing that no weapon fashioned against you shall prosper. You have God's mighty protection. This was David's confidence when he declared, *"He shall cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday"* (Psalm 91:4-6).

Never find yourself apologetic, intimidated, or reluctant to express your convictions about Christ and the message of the Gospel! Be mindful of your divine protection in Him. The Bible says, *"As the mountains surround Jerusalem, So the LORD surrounds his people from this time forth and forever"* (Psalm 125:2). Nothing and no one should prevent or keep you from proclaiming Jesus as Lord, for He's greater than any government, institution, or mob. He rules and reigns over the universe! Glory to His Name forever!

"Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all" *(1 Timothy 4:15).*

It's wonderful to be healed from any sickness or disease, but how about never being sick? That's surely more sublime, and that's the life Jesus brought; a life of divine health. Divine health for the Christian isn't a promise; it came in the salvation package. It's part of the result and impact of eternal life in you. The Bible says, *"And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son"* (1 John 5:11).

Being born again, you have eternal life, and eternal life doesn't require healing. Therefore, it doesn't matter what attacks your body; if you'd stir up the life of God in your spirit, your whole body will be vitalized. The Bible says, *"...if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you"* (Romans 8:11). *Hallelujah!* Christ in you---the Holy Spirit in you---is life-generating.

The Bible says you were born after the second Adam, who is a life-giving Spirit. What you need is to learn to activate this life from within you, through meditation. You have to consciously practise that life, by insisting on the Word, affirming boldly that the divine life has supplanted the human life of which you were born of your earthly parents. Every so often, say, *"Eternal life is at work in me; every facet of my being is inundated with the life of God."*

The expression, *"Meditate upon"* in our theme verse, is Greek, *"Meletao,"* also meaning *"to practise."* The result is that your progress and success will be undeniable and inevitable. When you feel symptoms of sickness in your body, it's a mirage; refute them with the Word. Never succumb to the rudiments of this world; the corrupting forces for this present world of darkness. And don't wait until there's a challenge to affirm the Word.

Paul lets us know this in 2 Corinthians 4:18 when he said *"the things which are seen are temporal";* he meant that they are temporary, subject to change. God is expecting to see you overcome all the challenges you face in life, knowing that you have all it takes to come out victoriously.

You may have been told you can't have children, or you've been diagnosed with a terminal disease, or you've been without a job since you graduated five years ago. It doesn't matter what the situation is or how hopeless it seems, God is waiting to see you change it because He knows you can.

Realize that you have arrived in the place of change whatever situation you're confronted with. Start by working on your*believing. Get the Word concerning that situation and meditate on it until you arrive at the point of faith. When faith comes, act on it and take possession of what you've believed.

God honours you and promotes you to a higher level spiritually for every triumph of your faith. So make up your mind to activate your faith and change every negative situation, since your spiritual promotions are based on such conquests.

True success is spiritual, and based on spiritual principles. If you’re going to be successful in anything, you must learn to take charge from the realm of the spirit, and the primary way to do that is through prayer. When you learn to bow your knees and discipline yourself to pray, there’ll be nothing you can’t change or achieve.

Some Christians think life is a joke; they pray three minutes and they’re done. Even while they’re praying, they’re distracted by everything else; then at the end of the day, they wonder why certain things happened that has made them victims in life. Discipline yourself to pray; make it a conscious part of your routine. Your nightmares will be over once you discover the efficacy of prayer. When you take charge and change things in the realm of the spirit, they’ll manifest in the earth-realm. When Deborah and Barak fought against Sisera and his armies, the Bible says, *“They fought from heaven; the stars in their courses fought against Sisera”* (Judges 5:20).

The spirit realm is where you set the circumstances of your life to control whatever happens in the natural world, and laugh your way through. You become like David—a mystery and a wonder to your world! Glory to God!

Precious Father, I thank you for the opportunity to receive the ministration of your Spirit through prayer. *INTEGRITY OF HEART ~ PASTOR CHRIS OYAKHILOME*

"...if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, in integrity of heart, and in uprightness...Then I will establish the throne of thy kingdom upon Israel for ever...." *(1 Kings 9:4-5)*

God spoke to Solomon as he was building the temple. He promised to establish his kingdom over Israel forever and all Solomon needed do was to walk before God as David, his father did (1 Kings 9:4). How did David walk? He walked in integrity of heart!

David was a man of his words. He walked with God with a perfect and upright heart, and also fulfilled every vow he made. Integrity is not in your dressing or physical gait, it is bringing out the glory of God that’s in you; that is, in your human spirit. How? It is by upholding God’s Word; living out the Word in your heart!

Job is another man who walked in integrity of heart toward God. He trusted God and refused to speak ill in spite of the calamity that befell him. He was the richest man in his region, but he lost all his wealth and his children in one day. Nevertheless, he said, *“My lips shall not speak wickedness, nor my tongue utter deceit. God forbid that I should justify you: till I die I will not remove mine integrity from me”* (Job 27:4-5).

Some put their trust in horses and some in princes but those that put their trust in the living God shall never be put to shame. Don’t ever put your trust or confidence in man, rather put your confidence in God. He’s the only one that can build up your life and move you to another realm, a higher level. Wake up every morning confident of His love for you and walk with Him in the integrity of heart.

A disease such as cancer draws its life from depression, bitterness, anger, resentment, malice and sadness. But laughter, which is one of the easiest, quickest and instantly recognizable expressions of joy and cheerfulness, has curative powers. If people who are sick or faced with dire circumstances in their lives would act simply on God’s Word by learning to laugh often, they’ll be amazed at the sudden change.

There’re those who haven’t laughed in a long time. They’ve almost forgotten how to laugh. They look at their lives and conclude there’s nothing to be happy about. In fact, they’d feel guilty if they caught themselves laughing. They believe laughing is for those who aren’t serious about life. Yet, their stiffness hasn’t made life any easier for them.
