🇨🇳🇺🇸 Beijing is gearing up for Trump’s visit. Officially, nobody knows where the American president will be staying. Unofficially, one hotel in the city suddenly stopped accepting bookings for May 13-15… and the entire block around it somehow ended up behind metal fences and packed with security…

🇨🇳🇺🇸 Пекин готовится к визиту Трампа. Официально никто не знает, где именно будет жить американский президент. Неофициально, один отель в городе вдруг закрыл бронирования на 13-15 мая… а весь квартал вокруг как-то случайно оказался за металлическими заборами и с кучей охраны ;)

Next week, Putin arrives in town. Mark my words: journalists are going to have a field day comparing how the Russian and American leaders are greeted in China 😉

🇨🇳🇺🇸Trump’s visit to China is over.
Journalists are now guessing whether he got Xi’s “Thucydides’ trap” reference, or whether ancient Greek history got lost somewhere in translation.
Some trade deals seem to have been made, but no major breakthrough between the two rival powers. Trump says he pulled China closer on Iran and urged Xi to buy oil from Texas.
Xi and Chinese officials have not confirmed that so far.
So we wait and see where the tankers sail, I guess…
Next week Putin is in town, so Beijing’s diplomatic traffic continues

Журналисты гадают, понял ли он отсылку Си к «ловушке Фукидида», или древнегреческая история где-то потерялась в переводе.
Какие-то торговые сделки есть, но большого прорыва или “разрядки” на саммите не случилось. Трамп говорит, что якобы перетянул Китай на свою сторону по Ирану и даже предложил Си покупать нефть в Техасе.
Ни Си, ни китайские официальные лица пока этого не подтвердили.
Посмотрим, куда поплывут танкеры…
На следующей неделе в Пекин прилетает Путин, геополитическая движуха продолжается
