“Actions by the judiciary in the past turned our state into a major bunker for criminal activity, with criminals from all over the country taking advantage of the restrictions imposed on police forces. All the governors have offered to collaborate with us. We contacted everyone and organized extensive logistics to suppress any reaction from these criminals. We’ve only just begun our work against crime, and we will continue.
Any state that fails to understand that the greatest problem in the country is insecurity will suffer from it in the future and won’t be able to react. Rio de Janeiro takes the lead—not with the intent of acting alone, but with the understanding that the epicenter of this problem plaguing Brazil is right here in Rio de Janeiro.”

“Anyone who wants to join Rio de Janeiro right now in the fight against crime is welcome. Those who want to cause trouble and play politics—our message to them is: ‘disappear.’
We don’t need anyone telling us what the people of Rio want, because what our residents want is a solution for their daily lives. Our citizens deserve freedom; they deserve the highest level of public safety. We will not fall into the trap of politicizing one of the biggest operations ever carried out.”

“WE ARE AT WAR. Anyone who says there was no intelligence work doesn’t know what they’re talking about. They’re talking nonsense on television. The National Force is not specialized in this type of action, in this kind of criminal ruthlessness. How many times have the Civil or Military Police had to rescue them? Whoever says that doesn’t know what they’re talking about.
Narco-activists are trying to condemn the operation. Yesterday’s operation was the biggest blow the Comando Vermelho has ever suffered in its entire history, since its founding in the 1970s. Those who chose confrontation were eliminated. Plain and simple.”

“Bodies on the ground. Christ in the heavens. Rio continues to be a portrait of inequality and the politics of death.
While the State chooses who can live, we continue demanding justice, accountability, and an end to massacres in the favelas.”
