Una gigantesca operación policial en Río de Janeiro, Brasil, dejó al menos 60 delincuentes muertos, 4 policías fallecidos, 81 detenidos y 75 rifles automáticos incautados. Más de 2.500 agentes participaron en el operativo, considerado el mayor en los últimos 15 años, llevado a cabo en los complejos de favelas de Alemão y Penha, en la zona norte de la ciudad.

La acción, denominada “Operação Contenção” (Operación Contención), tenía como objetivo desmantelar células del Comando Vermelho, la mayor facción criminal de Río, responsable del tráfico de drogas y armas. Durante los enfrentamientos, los criminales utilizaron drones, incendiaron barricadas y bloquearon accesos para frenar el avance de la policía.
