Sometimes you have to save yourself before you can save others and depending on what that entails, it might mean breaking away from your current life entirely.
Transforming within the confinement of a reality that doesn’t serve your evolution is extremely difficult. You will have to fight both the external resistance from those around you and the internal tendency to fall back into known patterns of behaviour.
The status quo always has an advantage over change, because change is difficult and uncomfortable, so it will not cease to want to drag you back into the ‘known’, regardless of how dark a place that might be, than let you venture into unknown territory.
If you’ve hit rock bottom, at least the only way is up, but lifting yourself from such a place requires a huge amount of will and determination. These are the times when you have to focus entirely on you, for in that state you are no good to yourself nor to anyone around you and you will need of everything you’ve got to lift yourself back up.
So do whatever you have to do to come up for air, to swim ashore, to start walking on your own two feet, to find your balance, to gather your strength and to build a better reality for yourself into which you will then be able to invite your loved ones.
Wanting to be better and do better is not selfish, it’s your duty towards yourself and towards those that love you.
The key is to come back to help others save themselves once you’re on the right track.
