Jesus was once asked when the kingdom of God would come. The kingdom of God, Jesus replied, is not something people will be able to see and point to. Then came these striking words: “Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.” (Luke 17:21)

As Jesus made unambiguously clear, we all have the ability to experience this inner treasure and I think this journey we are on, is precisely about understanding this universal truth and putting it in to practice

The Irish men and the Spider Crab
This is based on a true story told to me by a good friend who as a young boy was evacuated to for safety to Conwell during the second world war, He was sent to live on a farm most of the men from the farm had gone to join the army so the government sent two southern Irish chaps along to help as labourers. Now being war time food was short and rationed but on this day which must have be some kind of a holiday Paddy and Shamus decided to go into town and see what they could find as a treat so a few hours later they returned with a big very fresh and vrey alive spider crab with the intention of cooking it and having it for tea. So into the kitchen a get the biggest pot they could find fill it with water and get it on the boil time to put the crab in .Now as a Guern we know that the only way to put a crab in a pot is to turn it upside down and drop it in backwards but these boys had never seen a spider crab before never mind cooked on and we all know how wide a spider can get when you hold it over a pot of boiling water and try and put it in legs first no way could they get it in the pot struggle as they did. So Shamus said I got an idea for sure we must kill it first but how do we do that says Paddy I will stab it says Shamus getting his little knife from his pocket and trusting the blade into the shell of this poor crab but the blade just snapped straight off the knife was no match for the hard shell .After much swearing, what should we do now says Paddy I know says Shamus we will shoot it says Shamus with that they grab the farmers old shot gun that was hung on one of the beams and marched outside Paddy carefully put the crab down on the path out by the back door and Shamus took aim BOOM BOOM he gave it both barrels at point black range there was silence as the dust cleared and are two boys are now staring into the now hole where the crab had been for it was no more gone to the four winds and Paddy says to Shamus you were only supposed to blow the bloody claws off.
