Ola Electric reported sales of 25,000 units in February 2025. However, data from the VAHAN portal indicates only 8,647 registrations for the same period, revealing a significant discrepancy.
As per the company officials, registration process is affected due to their negotiations with vendors who help them with registration process .
Under Rule 42 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR), 1989, it’s mandated that no holder of a trade certificate shall deliver a motor vehicle to a purchaser without registration, whether temporary or permanent. Violating this provision can lead to penalties, including the potential cancellation of the trade certificate.

Given the current situation, there are two primary possibilities for the unregistered vehicles:
1. Vehicles Delivered Without Registration: If Ola Electric has delivered vehicles without either temporary or permanent registration, this would constitute a violation of CMVR rules 1989, attracting penalties and risking the cancellation of their trade certificate.
2. Vehicles Pending Delivery: If the vehicles remain with the company awaiting registration, the actual retail deliveries are pending. In such cases, these units shouldn’t be considered as completed sales until the registration process is finalized.
These are very serious question which needs to be answered by the company offficlas with immediate correctives actions.

OLA operates 2675 experience centres wherein new unregistered vehicles are displayed / retailed, test drives are offered to potential customers and also new deliveries also take place. Out of these centres, 2,361 operate without valid Trade Certificate which is also a gross violation of CMVR rules and can lead to seizure of displayed vehicles and also suspension / cancellation of Trade certificate
