VES stands for Bolívar Soberano (Sovereign Bolívar), which is the official currency of Venezuela. Introduced in August 2018, it replaced the Bolívar Fuerte (VEF) at a rate of 1 VES to 100,000 VEF to address hyperinflation.
Symbol: Bs.S
Subunit: 1 bolívar = 100 céntimos
Status: It was the primary currency until October 1, 2021, when it was redenominated again into the Digital Bolívar (VED).
Current Usage: While the Digital Bolívar (VED) is the current legal tender for non-cash payments, the term VES is still widely used to refer to the sovereign bolívar in circulation or in exchange rate contexts.
