Where do the weapons of the West Bank resistance come from?

An article published today in The Cradle written by Qassem S. Qassem outlines in detail where the resistance gets its weapons from, the role of the Axis of Resistance, and how tactics of arms supply have evolved. Our summary is below:

• Jordanian parliament member Imad Al-Adwan was arrested in April by the IOF for smuggling over 200 guns and gold into the West Bank. Zionist intelligence sources report that he had successfully smuggled goods into Palestine at least a dozen times prior. Al-Adwan was arrested due to a tip by Jordanian intelligence.

• 1,600 weapons from Jordan have been siezed by zionist border guards in the two years. A previous report indicated that many of these weapons are used for internal quarrels, while some are harbored by Fatah militias awaiting the day that Mahmoud Abbas is no longer president.

• The goal of many recent IOF raids into the West Bank is to confiscate weapons. Zionist concerns are not only about smuggled weapons, but those purchased by resistance fighters from black market sources within occupied Palestine.

• Arms smuggling into the West Bank has increased from Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and the occupied interior, with different types of weapons coming from different regions. Soviet weapons come in through Syria, while American weapons come through Jordan. Zionist leaderships view the situation as a strategic threat requiring joint action, hinting at an inevitable and imminent large-scale West Bank invasion of the northern West Bank.

• The reasons for the shift to firearms are because the Palestinian Authority's control has weakened, economic conditions have deteriorated, and resistance tactics have evolved, moving from knives and Molotov cocktails to guns. 2022 saw a large increase in resistance operations and a doubling in the number of settlers killed in resistance operations compared to 2021.

• Zionist attempts to control arms smuggling have led to a significant increase in weapons prices, making smuggling attempts more lucrative. Most arms dealers buy from the "israeli" black market, often through theft from military bases. M4 rifles cost $30,000, 6 times the price in Lebanon, and an AK47 costs $20,000, over 25 times the price in Lebanon. Old M16s cost $16,000 and Glock pistoles cost $15,000, over 10x the standard price. The iconic Palestinian-made Carlo is not in high demand due to its faults.

• The prices of bullets in Palestine have skyrocketed to $15 each, up from $2 in 2021 (with a sub-dollar cost in Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq). These price increases are lucrative, leading to increased smuggling attempts.

• Much of the smuggling is headed by Iran—whose leader, Ali Khamenei, advocated for arming the West Bank "as the only solution to confront this brutal entity"—and Hezbollah, which oversees 95% of the large-scale weapons smuggling from Lebanon. Hezbollah decided, after the Dignity Uprising of 2021 (in which Palestinians of the occupied interior rose up with the entire homeland) to flood occupied Palestine with light weapons in preparation for the "zero hour."

• Despite zionist efforts to curtail arms smuggling into the West Bank, resistance factions have adopted new strategies such as domestically purchasing weapons or using drones for smuggling (such as those recently intercepted case from Syria). This has led to the evolution of arming strategies; since weapons themselves can't get in, supporters have opted to financially support resistance fighters so that they can buy weapons at the exorbitant prices. This is why Imad Al-Adwan was carrying gold and why the PA abducted Lions' Den fighter Musab Shtayyeh for allegedly transferring Hamas funds to the Lions' Den. In March, the IOF also abducted fighters in Nablus and Jenin on charges of receiving large sums of cash through Fatah affiliates.

• With zionists besieged on all fronts and on the inside, a large-scale invasion of the northern West Bank is imminent, but this will not come without a high cost to the zionists.

🚨 Sirens ring in #Jenin as the IOF invades surrounding areas. Resistance fighters are showing restraint, not opening fire on vehicles in adherence to new Jenin Brigade strategies. Armed clashes have broken out in Burqin, outside of #Jenin. Resistance fighters…
⚫️ Jenin Brigade:

"Fight them; Allah will punish them by your hands, disgrace them, give you victory over them, heal the hearts of a believing people."

Confronting the occupation forces and their vehicles at dawn today:

A failed attempt was made by the enemy army at dawn today to lure the fighters to confrontation and clash points that had been previously prepared for targeting them, but by help of Allah and the high vigilance of our fighters, the fighters were on the lookout for them.

Our fighters were able to deliver intensive strikes with barrages of bullets and explosive devices towards the occupation forces and their vehicles on multiple fronts, achieving direct hits.

Our fighters engaged in fierce clashes near Tawalbeh Mosque, and detonated a number of explosive devices in the occupation forces and their vehicles, which forced them to retreat after their plans failed. Our fighters engaged in clashes in both the Jordanian area and Haifa Street, where they rained down on the occupation forces with intense gunfire and explosive devices.

After the failure of the enemy's plans, the Brigade carried out violent attacks towards the occupation forces and took an attacking position. Our fighters became the pursuers rather than the pursued. Our fighters chased the occupation's vehicles that retreated dragging their tails of disappointment after they tasted various kinds of torment.

Our jihad is continuous and our weapons are open on all fronts.

It is a jihad of victory or martyrdom.

Press release issued by the Committee of Administrative Detainees in occupation prisons, in a final warning to the occupation’s prison administration:

After the most recent dialogue session held last Wednesday between representatives of the prisoners’ movement, representatives of the “israeli prison administration,” and the relevant authorities responsible for monitoring administrative detention by the occupation, and after consultation by the Committee of Administrative Detainees, it was decided to give the opportunity to continue the dialogue after responding to some demands and suspending the response to our principal demands until the next dialogue session at the beginning of next month.

Therefore, we emphasize the following:

Firstly: This opportunity is considered the last chance to respond to our just demands.

Secondly: Our constant readiness and high preparedness are the guarantee to maintain our rights and the enemy's response to all our demands.

Thirdly: We call on our heroic people and all supporting institutions of the prisoners' cause to continue their supporting role for our right to obtain our freedom and end this oppressive file.

📝 Resistance Against Revisionism: Countering Zionist Indigenous Infiltration:
Preying upon the marginalization of our indigenous siblings, shameless zionists who historically sow discord with identity and respectability politics, mixed with co-optation and victimization, are making an audacious attempt to co-opt indigeneity, by employing two zionist, comprador propaganda agents. Yet again these pretendians fail to succeed with this recent infiltration attempt to defame the honorable and steadfast Native American movement by calling for a Native American embassy in Al-Quds, while leaders of a variety of tribes have stood with Palestinians and reject normalizing the zionist entity.

Scholar Steven Salaita highlights how transnational humanities, and centering American Indian and Indigenous Studies, is central to Palestinian activism. The ties between the creation of "israel" and the so-called "united states" cement this notion, not only because zionist and imperialist interactions date back to so-called pioneers, but also because the two entities are deeply intertwined. The indigenous liberation movement in the so-called “united states,” has always been side by side with Palestinians in struggle.

When zionists fail to normalize and co-opt the Palestinian liberation movement, they opt to infiltrate other liberation movement communities, like the Black community to which Palestinians are forever committed.

Several years ago, Palestinian and Native organizers blocked several infiltration attempts by zionists posing as Native American or claiming the zionist movement and indigenous liberation align. As a last-ditch effort, the zionists have resorted to their propaganda channels like the Jerusalem Post, who purport on a so-called Chief Joseph Riverwind and his wife Laralyn, seeking to establish a zionist-"Native American" embassy in occupied Al-Quds.
📝 Resistance Against Revisionism: Countering Zionist Indigenous Infiltration (2/2):

However, serious doubts have been raised about the true identity of Joseph Riverwind, who has reportedly changed his tribal affiliation a number of times and while also claiming to be a US military veteran. Further, his wife has been known to make audacious claims about her life that are clearly lies; the two are notorious frauds in the Indigenous community and are referred to as pretendians.

This opportunistic manipulation of indigenous heritage in collusion with zionists treats indigenous identity as disposable to the efforts of zionists. It also points to the historical revision that Indigenous communities battle daily, when colonial interests erase their voice and insult their steadfast movement and firm demands. In fact, zionists and white supremacists have been adamant about reversing a liberated Ethnic Studies curriculum and attacking indigenous and colonized voices, while also mocking them with red-face.

Palestinian and Native comrades are hand in hand and recognize this latest comical attempt by zionists to propel their propaganda of indigeneity, often relying on Mizrahism—which violently emerged among the Haganah and aided in the Nakba, and today have special units in the zionist army—but an academic and NGO propaganda wing erases these facts and forge notions that they too belong to Palestine and "co-resist." This ingenious and reductionist narrative mirrors the pretendians, just as zionism is intertwined with Manifest Destiny through imperialism. Just as we hold the Nakba never ended, the murder and abduction of indigenous has not stopped as colonial buildings rise above graves and indigenous history. The tactics of colonialism never ended, yet they evolve into instances such as these.

We will always extend our arms to our indigenous siblings who are with us in the same trench, fighting the same battle against imperialists and their collaborators. We fight the same enemy and the same forces that try to undermine our struggles. As Nick Estes writes from He Sapa ("Black Hills"), "This is our al-Quds." Our resistance against colonialism and our struggle for the liberation of indigenous peoples, from Turtle Island to Palestine, is one.

Three heroes raced towards martyrdom, their honorable blood spilled for the Palestinian and Arab cause. The day, 93 years ago, marks Red Tuesday, and it is a day of celebration for the first martyrs of the prisoners movement.

From Fuad Hijazi, Atta Al-Zir, and Mohammed Jamjmoum to Nasser Abu Hmeid, Khader Adnan, and Walid Daqqah, we honor our prisoners, fighters, and martyrs. Today, on the 93rd anniversary of the hanging of the three heroes of Akka prison by the British occupation, we pay tribute to our Arab revolutionaries whose spilled blood shone the path.

Heroes of the Buraq Uprising, they resisted valiantly against British colonialism of Palestine, carrying out operations against the colonists that had made way for zionists. Palestinians knew they had to fight against the British, knowing that British policy would open the door for more zionist colonization. They organized against incoming zionist colonizers, counter-marching against their provocations, marking the beginnings of the Buraq Uprising of 1929.

From the eternal capital of Al-Quds, the revolution exploded and swiftly spread across the entire land of Palestine; 116 Arabs were martyred and 113 zionists were killed. Hundreds of Arabs were arrested and convicted—with 65 sentenced to death—compared to few convictions for British-protected colonizers.

The British occupation, progenitors of the colonial administrative detention policy practiced by zionists against Palestinians today, commuted all death sentences but three. These three heroes were executed by hanging on this day, Red Tuesday, in 1930.

The homeland stood still from the river to the sea our three heroes. Black flags fluttered on every Palestinian home in mourning for the lions unintimidated by death. They faced their executioner with pride, knowing that their people would carry on their legacy and fight; the brutal occupier could only flounder in the face of such determination.

Three heroes raced towards martyrdom, their honorable blood spilled for the Palestinian and Arab cause. The day, 93 years ago, marks Red Tuesday, and it is a day of celebration for the first martyrs of the prisoners movement. From Fuad Hijazi, Atta Al-Zir…
A prescient Sheikh Izz El-Din Al-Qassam, holding back tears yet enraged and radiating defiance, addressed the people of now-occupied Haifa at the time and said: "Oh people of Haifa... Oh Muslims, do you not know Fuad Hijazi? Weren't Fuad Hijazi, Atta Al-Zir, and Mohammad Jamjoum your brothers? ... They are now on the gallows... The English have sentenced them to death for the sake of the Jews."

The three heroes left behind their collective will, published the next day in Al-Yarmouk newspaper and attached above. Fuad wrote a separate letter to be published in the same edition. In its conclusion, he asked: "Indeed, the day of my hanging should be a day of joy and celebration, and likewise, joy and celebration should be held on June 17th of every year. This day should be a historic day where speeches are given and songs are sung in memory of our spilled blood for the sake of Palestine and the Arab cause."

93 years have passed, and our heroes are immortalized in our culture of resistance. Songs sung throughout generations describe their heroism, with adaptations made to honor their enduring struggle, legacy, and influence on the modern prisoners' movement. Their courage is enmeshed with our history, and as Fuad asked, we celebrate; we celebrate our prisoners and martyrs, remembering their sacrifices every June 17th.

93 years have passed, and June 17th's blood has not stopped flowing. On June 17th of last year, the blood of three resisting heroes also watered the soil of Palestine, with Baraa Lahlouh, Laith Abu Srour, and Youssef Salah martyred in a cowardly zionist assassination in Jenin. They rushed towards death like the lions before them for the sake of the homeland.

Today, we remember and honor these brave martyrs, those who resist by any means, unyielding and steadfast. The march continues, and it does not stop until the end of the zionist entity and imperialism.
