On this day, April 17 of each year, the masses of our Palestinian people celebrate with all the meanings of solidarity, pride, and dignity the prisoners in the zionist occupation prisons, who constitute an integral part of our people's unity and their national cause. They recall their continuous suffering as a result of the terrorism and brutality of the zionist jailer, the systematic crimes and desperate attempts aimed at undermining their steadfastness and breaking their will. We renew the covenant of loyalty to them and their sacrifices, until their liberation and their breathing in of the fragrance of freedom in the sky of the homeland.
On Palestinian Prisoners' Day, we in the Hamas movement, ask for mercy on the souls of the martyred prisoners, ask Allah Almighty for a speedy recovery for the sick, and salute our heroic prisoners and our glorious female prisoners in the prisons of the occupation. With their steadfastness and defiance of the zionist jailer, they embody the unity and resistance of our people in all fields.
We also affirm the following:
Firstly: the cause of liberating prisoners from enemy prisons is a national cause par excellence, and it was and will remain at the top of the movement's priorities, which will spare no effort or means to achieve loyalty to them and liberate them from the occupation prisons.
Secondly: we warn the fascist occupation government against escalating its systematic violations and crimes against our heroic prisoners in its prisons, and we hold it fully responsible for their lives and safety, especially sick prisoners, children, and women. These crimes will not be subjected to a statute of limitations, nor will they succeed in breaking their will and steadfastness.
Thirdly: we call on the masses of our people, its living forces, and its national factions to unite efforts and mobilize all energies to support the prisoners by all means. On April 17th, Palestinian Prisoners’ Day, two historic operations were carried out in 2004 and 2006.
In 2004, the first response to the assassination of Hamas' spiritual head Ahmed Yassin came in the form of a joint operation by Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades and Al-Qassam Brigades. At the colonial Erez crossing in Gaza, the determined 22-year-old Fadi Ahmed Al-Amoudi carried out the martyrdom operation with his eyes set on the Shin Bet. This took careful planning; the resistance's engineers spent weeks to come up with an innovative way to bypass the zionist's metal detectors, and a new type of explosive was forged. Fadi was ready; he recited his will describing his "faith in right to live on the sacred land of Palestine and the continuation of the path of resistance."
On the fateful Saturday, he headed to the crossing to carry out his operation, filmed in its entirety by Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades. The explosive detontated, killing three zionist intelligence officers and wounding two others. This operation proved the failure of all levels of "security" and "intelligence" that the zionists thought provided them safety.

In the midst of heightened occupation security activity due to Passover, he snuck across multiple colonial barriers with 13 kilograms of explosive material. 11 settlers were killed and over 70 wounded as Hammad ascended to martyrdom.
The operation came as a tribute to Palestinians imprisoned by the occupation, and yet another confirmation that resistance continues until victory. The hero martyr’s body was held by the occupation for six years before being returned to his family. In his will, Hammad wrote:
“Convoys of martyrdom fighters are coming and are prepared to respond [to the enemy]. They will know that we love martyrdom and death as they love life.”

The IOF shot and wounded a Palestinian woman for allegedly trying to carry out a stabbing operation near the settlement of “Etzion”. The woman has been identified as Fatima Shaheen (33 years old), married and mother of one child. She is currently in a stable condition and has been transferred to the hospital.
