The Islamic Resistance Movement - Hamas called on the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, to take practical and immediate steps in light of his statement that the continued occupation and aggression pose not only a danger to Palestinians but also a threat to international peace and security.

In its message to the UN Secretary-General on Saturday, September 21st, Hamas urged for immediate and direct action, calling for pressure on the occupation and its supporters to halt the aggression and genocide war in Gaza, as well as the flagrant violations in the West Bank and Al-Quds.

The Movement stated in its message: "We write to you as you open the 79th session of the UN General Assembly. We reiterate what you have previously stated, that 'the genocide war in Gaza is causing horrific humanitarian suffering, the destruction of lives, the tearing of families apart, and leaving countless people homeless, hungry, and traumatized. The humanitarian crisis in Gaza has surpassed catastrophe due to the brutal zionist aggression."

The Movement added: "We urge you to intensify relief efforts for our steadfast people in Gaza by opening crossings and directing urgent aid in the form of food, medicine, clothing, and shelter supplies, especially since the theme of the 79th General Assembly session is 'Leaving no one behind, working together for peace, sustainable development, and human dignity for present and future generations.'"

Hamas reaffirmed the UN’s call that "this terrible war must end," noting that from the first moment of the aggression, Hamas has sought to stop it and protect the Palestinian people from the genocide war perpetrated by the occupation. The Movement has cooperated extensively with mediators, maintaining a positive attitude, and has participated in many rounds of negotiations, only to be met with the intransigence of the occupation, led by Netanyahu and his fascist government.

Hamas stated in its message: "We agree with you that the genocide war on Gaza may exacerbate existing threats to international peace and security, as per Article 99 of the UN Charter. We also concur with your statement that the world faces a severe risk of a collapse of the humanitarian system, and that the situation is rapidly deteriorating into a catastrophe which might have irreversible consequences for Palestinians and for peace and security in the region. This has been evidenced by the 'israeli' occupation's attacks on neighboring countries and its violation of their capitals, which threatens to ignite a regional war impacting everyone in the region and around the world."

The Movement reiterated its three-phase vision presented since the start of the aggression, which calls for a ceasefire, a prisoner exchange, reconstruction, the lifting of the siege, achieving Palestinian reconciliation, forming a national coalition government representing all parties, and engaging in a comprehensive political process based on relevant international resolutions to end the occupation, establish an independent Palestinian state with Al-Quds as its capital, and ensuring the return of refugees.

Hamas holds the occupation government and its supporters fully responsible for the failure of ceasefire negotiations, affirming its previously stated position of refusing to engage in further negotiations or discuss new proposals that would provide cover for the occupation’s aggression and grant it more time to prolong its genocide war against our people.
