Palestinian prisoner Imad Omran "Tawfiq Shofali" from the village of Burin, south of #Nablus, ascended to martyrdom on Friday night, at the age of 59, inside his cell in Krems Prison in Austria.
Imad engaged in revolutionary actions at a young age. He participated in the battles of confronting the zionist invasion of Beirut in 1982, at the age of 17. In response to the Sabra and Shatila massacre, he participated in carrying out the Vienna Airport operation that targeted the zionist entity's company Airlines "El Al" in 1985, at the age of 20.
The Austrian authorities arrested him while he was wounded following the Vienna Airport resistance operation, and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
Despite being behind bars, his struggle spirit never yielded for a moment. He participated in the events of a rebellion in the Austrian "Graz Carolau" prison, which caused 19 years to be added to his sentence.
Like our Freedom Tunnel prisoners, Imad snatched his freedom in 1995, but the Austrian authorities were able to arrest him again and added new prison sentences to his sentence.
On September 14, 2024, Imad ascended in his cell in Krems Prison in Austria, at the age of 60, two-thirds of which he had spent behind bars.
The zionist prisons continue to hold our people hostages away from their homeland and families. Among the most prominent cases is Georges Ibrahim Abdallah, a Lebanese militant held in French prisons since 1984, despite being eligible for liberation since 1999.
