Turkish youth and members of the Turkish Communist Party took action after the USS Wasp warship docked in Izmir, Turkey, declaring "The USS Wasp will get the hell out of our country!"
The youth targeted American soldiers from the ship with eggs and placed a hood over another soldier while chanting "Yankee go home" and waving Palestinian flags. This action was a reference to US soldiers placing hoods over the heads of kidnapped Turkish soldiers during the illegal invasion of Iraq in 2003. Over a dozen Turkish youth were arrested following the events.
The group issued a statement: "American soldiers whose hands are stained with the blood of our soldiers and thousands of Palestinians cannot desecrate our country. Every time your foot steps on this land, we will greet you in the manner you deserve."
