On the World Press Freedom Day, I extend the highest expressions of gratitude, appreciation, and the meanings of dignity and pride to the Palestinian media, both knights and dames of her majesty, who have paid and continue to pay the price of the profession and the homeland as martyrs, wounded, and prisoners. Their voices were not silenced, their pens did not dry, and their cameras were not broken.
The anniversary of Press Day this year is sad and heavy after we have lost a large number of colleagues from the profession as martyrs or prisoners amid an aggression that violated everything and made journalists targets of its brutal military arsenal, also injuring dozens.
You were, as your people have always known you, the first defense brigade and the advanced trench, to expose the crimes of the occupying Nazi and reveal its falsehood and claims, and you succeeded in being the voice of your people’s grievances and reflecting images of their suffering, moving the world to reject them.

The zionist Nazi aggression against our people enters its eighth month, amidst its violation of all the essentials of life and the pillars of societal stability. The government institution has been at the forefront of the occupation's target list, with a clear aim to destroy the government work system and prevent it from fulfilling its duty to serve our people.
To achieve this goal, the occupation has committed dozens of massacres and crimes against government institutions and their staff, resulting in about 2,400 martyrs from the government institution, while the occupation destroyed nearly 200 government headquarters, bombing ministries, service centers, and even hospitals were not spared from the zionist machinery of destruction. More than three thousand government employees were injured due to the aggression, while the occupation army arrested hundreds of them, most of whom were abducted from their workplaces in hospitals and various service centers.
The occupation deliberately targeted government leaders, assassinating many, including the Head of the Crossings and Borders Authority, the National Security Commander, the Rafah Crossing Official, and others. Yet, the government institution maintained its duty towards our people and strove to remain cohesive amidst the systematic and repeated targeting by the occupation of its crews in the field.
Today, we renew our pledge to our people to be as steadfast and resilient as you are, to remain faithful to the sacred blood shed by the occupation, and not to betray the trust of responsibility that our people have entrusted to us. 🚨 Resistance fighters targeted the occupation forces in the town of Jalboun, near #Jenin, using locally-made explosive devices.
According to a 3 May Yedioth Ahronoth report, Mossad Chief David Barnea and Shin Bet Chief Ronen Bar asked the cabinet to postpone a vote to ban Al Jazeera late on Thursday night.
The delaying of the vote is said to be an attempt by the spy chiefs to pressure Qatar to use its mediating role to force Hamas into accepting the latest proposal for a prisoner exchange and temporary ceasefire – including by threatening to oust the Hamas leadership from Doha.
The Hamas leadership's residence in Doha, established originally at the behest of the US and Israel, has become increasingly scrutinized in recent months by Israeli officials who feel that Qatar hasn’t used its power over the group sufficiently. By threatening to shut Al Jazeera down, the officials believe Qatar will be incentivized to act.

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine reiterated that the demands of the resistance are clear, namely a complete cessation of aggression (a permanent ceasefire), the withdrawal of the occupation forces from the Gaza Strip, a real exchange deal, and the return of all displaced persons to their homes from which they were displaced.
The Front explained that there is complete, continuous and constant coordination between all resistance factions, and there is consensus on the resistance’s demands, and there will be no progress in the negotiations unless the occupation acquiesces to these just demands, and the ball is now in the court of the occupation, which is still evasive and stubborn and does not want to respond to these demands, particularly enemy Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, for narrow political calculations.

Students at Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington, the university of Rachel Corrie, reached an agreement on April 30th with university administration to end the week-long encampment at the university in solidarity with Palestine in exchange for:
- Revising investment policies to be "socially responsible," i.e addressing divestment "from companies that profit from gross human rights violations and/or the occupation of Palestinian territories" with transparency, to be discussed and agreed upon in the coming months. The divestment recommendations will be implemented by Spring 2025.
- To revise the policy accepting grant funding based on "whether grants facilitate illegal occupations abroad, limit free speech, or support oppression of minorities" with the same timeline.
- To revise the police standard operating procedures for campus.
- To explore alternative crisis response models to propose "a new, non-law enforcement model for 24-hour crisis response that provides for medical care, de-escalation and the tools, equipment, and culture," to be implemented in Spring 2025.
Additionally, the college will make a statement in defense of free speech, particularly for pro-Palestinian students, to be reviewed by students, calling for a ceasefire and making mention of US weapons used against Palestinians.
The university also blocked studying abroad in occupied Palestine, as well as Gaza and the West Bank.
