The unemployment rate in the Gaza Strip reached 75% at the beginning of the current year 2024, compared to 46% before the genocide war, while more than 200,000 people lost their jobs during the first 3 months of the war, including about 5,000 fishermen, as the occupation army imposes a suffocating siege and prevents fishermen from fishing in the sea, and even shoots and kills them directly, and the crimes of killing fishermen were repeated during the genocide war of those who were looking for a living.

This occasion comes as the poverty rate has risen to more than 90% in the Gaza Strip concurrently with catastrophic war conditions, and at a time when 95% of the economic establishments in the Gaza Strip have completely stopped working due to bombing, destruction, and genocide, extending over 18 years of the unjust siege imposed on the Gaza Strip.

International Workers' Day

🚨 Since last night until this Wednesday morning, the IOF have arrested at least 20 Palestinians from the West Bank, including a child and former prisoners, according to the Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Commission.

The forces continue to carry out acts of torment, severe beatings, and threats against the detainees and their families, as well as extensive vandalism and destruction of citizens' homes.

The occupation forces also arrested dozens of workers from the West Bank on the grounds of entering the occupied 1948 lands without a permit to work, and we were unable to ascertain their numbers and identities.

The total number of arrests has reached more than 8,535 since October 7th. This total includes those arrested from their homes, at military checkpoints, those who were forced to surrender themselves under pressure, and those held as hostages.

The Israeli occupation system has targeted Palestinian workers, as well as all segments of the Palestinian people, over many decades. Arrests and persecution have been among the occupation's prominent policies. Moreover, a significant portion of Palestinian prisoners who have struggled for the freedom of their land and people come from the working class. Over the years, the occupation has worked on developing its tools and policies to target them, depriving them of their rights, and imposing further control and surveillance on their right to work and life.
In a statement issued by the Prisoner Institutions (Prisoner Institutions :The Commission of Detainees Affairs, The Palestinian Society Prisoners' Club, Addameer Institution for Prisoner Support and Human Rights) on the occasion of International Workers' Day, which falls on the first of May every year, they affirmed that amidst the escalating aggression of the occupation and the beginning of the genocidal war against our people in Gaza over the course of about 7 months, the issue of Palestinian workers has become prominent. This is seen in light of the escalating crimes and systematic violations against them, including arrests, persecution, and torture.
Thousands of Palestinian workers from all Palestinian geographies have been subjected to mass arrests and systematic crimes, specifically after the seventh of October. This falls within the framework of the collective punishment policy that the occupation has escalated in an unprecedented manner compared to periods in Palestine marked by uprisings and broad popular waves against the Israeli occupation system.👇
