🚨 For the 4th consecutive day now, students at Yale University have staged a Gaza Solidarity Encampment to demand their university divests from zionism, as one of at least 11 encampments taking place at US universities.
Students have also protested at Beinecke Plaza for 8 days now.
14 students also suspended a steadfast 8-day-long hunger strike today, which they underwent to demand the university to divest from all weapons manufacturing including companies involved in the zionist entity's ongoing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.
Yale discloses only 1% of its investments, having an endowment of over $40 billion that has skyrocketed in recent years.
Over 1,500 Yale alumni and students have also pledged to withhold donations until Yale meets the divestment demand.
On April 20, the Yale Corporation Trustee meeting refused to meet the student's demands.
This morning, at 6:40 am while students at the encampment were sleeping, the police ambushed the students blocking off all entrances to the plaza. They threatened the students participating that they will be arrested if they do not leave. Students replied with chants of “Shame!,” “Free Palestine!,” and "We will bear witness to the arrests."
49 students were arrested, many handcuffed and taken away while police attempted to destroy the encampment.
After the arrests, hundreds of students blocked the main campus intersection, moving the heart of the protest from the campus periphery to its heart.
