Fida'i - Guardians of Sacrifice and Liberation:
Fida'i refers to a member of a historical group of fighters, known for their readiness to sacrifice their lives in acts of assassination to further their cause. Historically, these individuals were typically associated with the Nizari Ismailis, a sect of Shia Islam, particularly during the time of the Crusades in the Middle East. The term Fida'i is derived from Arabic, with its root word "fida" meaning "redemption" or "sacrifice." This term became synonymous with their willingness to give their lives for a greater cause, often involving covert operations and targeted assassinations against their enemies.

In the context of Palestine, the term Fida'i, or Fedayeen in its plural form, has a slightly different connotation. It refers to guerrilla resistance fighters who are dedicated to the cause of the liberation of Palestine and the anti-colonial struggle. The term became prominent in the mid-20th century, particularly in the 1950s and 1960s, and is associated with various Palestinian resistance groups that emerged to combat the zionist occupation.

During many interviews with the residents of Gaza in recent months, Palestinians who have lost their family, friends, and homes continue to use the term often stating, “This is all Fida Palestine.” Often, Palestinians being arrested will declare, "Fida Al-Quds!" as they are taken away. Fida in the context meaning that they are willing to sacrifice everything for the homeland.

The Fedayeen were involved in various forms of armed resistance, including cross-border raids into the occupied territories, battles against the IOF, and other militant activities. They played a significant role in the anti-colonial struggle, particularly in the periods leading up to and following the 1967 Six-Day War.

The use of the term Fida'i in this context retains the connotation of sacrifice and dedication to a cause, as these fighters were often willing to risk their lives for the liberation of the homeland. The fedayeen became symbols of Palestinian resistance and their actions had a significant impact on the political and military dynamics of the region. Today, our fedayeen continue to sacrifice for a greater cause, for their people and homeland. Al-Qassam Brigades have also manufactured an explosive, the "guerilla action device," used in daring, close-range encounters, symbolizing the sacrifice and determination of the fighters that use it.

The word Fida'i still lives on in the hearts of every resistance fighter and every Palestinian wherever they might reside, both at home and abroad. They continue to wage the struggle and sacrifice everything they can to water the seeds of liberation.
