Today marks 33 years since the assassination of martyr Salah Khalaf, "Abu Iyad". A founder of Fatah, Abu Iyad devoted himself to the militant struggle and took over important positions within the faction.
Abu Iyad was present in all sites of the revolution: in Cairo, Damascus, Jordan, Beirut and Tunisia. Abu Iyad led many operations throughout the years of the Lebanese war, staying steadfast against the occupation. He is also credited with founding the Black September Organization, which carried out effective external operations, such as the Munich Operation.
Abu Iyad refused to lay down arms to negotiate with the enemy, unlike those that came after him. He stuck to the thawabet always, saying "negotiations only serve the occupying enemy."
