The battle lasted over three hours. In the initial ambush in the Shuja'iyya neighborhood, Al-Qassam fighters disguised themselves in IOF uniforms and M16 rifles, confusing the enemy.
After a zionist force entered a building in the neighborhood, they fell into a ambush after explosives detonated at the door. Four were wounded and contact was lost with them. This gave the the impression to the IOF that the force might have been captured.
When another zionist force advanced, they came under heavy fire, leading to the immediate death of two more soldiers.
Over three hours, other zionist forces advanced, violent clashes would ensue, and the zionist soldiers would be eliminated in clashes or ambushes, resulting in the death of the rest, including the lieutenant colonel.
