Today, we honor the martyrdom of comrade Omar Yousef Manaa—cherished baker, brave fighter, dedicated student, inspiring leader—who ascended during armed clashes one year ago in the steadfast Red Castle, Dheisheh camp in Bethlehem.
Omar was the camp, beloved by all, with his guiding principles a beacon inspiring fighters and friends. He was the baker of the camp, providing bread for its people and fighting in defense of them, nourishing their bodies and spirits.
At dawn, four bullets pierced his body, his blood soaking the pure earth of the camp. His brother Yazan was abducted by the IOF the same dawn. Omar's beloved and radiant smile dissapeared from the camp, but his influence was deeply rooted as the olive trees of Bethlehem and as pervasive as its wildflowers, spreading the seeds of steadfastness, courage, generosity, and deep love for his people.
