In the last 16 years of siege, 95% of boat engines in Gaza have become unusable and many boats have become permanently retired. Repair shops shut down and there is an intense shortage of materials.
Regardless, Gazans resist the siege daily. They build and repair their boats with other materials. Some of the best engineers in the world are found in Gaza. That fiber is allowed is a welcome change, but we will never thank the occupation for allowing us what is already rightfully ours.
