The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine condemned on Friday evening the actions of the Security Forces of the [Palestinian] Authority in suppressing participants in the launching ceremony of the Islamic Jihad Movement in Tulkarem, which resulted in injuries to a number of citizens.
The Front regarded this suppression as part of an escalating policy of repression, which constitutes an infringement on political pluralism and the right of forces and factions to commemorate their occasions, including national events. It further leads to the exacerbation of the internal situation and poses a danger to civil and social peace.
The Front emphasized the necessity to halt these repressive practices and ensure their non-repetition in order to preserve social cohesion and the unity of our people, and to prevent the occupation from exploiting these incidents and fueling them to advance its own policies and liquidation projects.
The Front considered the actions taken by the PA Security Forces, such as setting up barriers and preventing participation in the Islamic Jihad Festival in Nour Shams camp, as well as opening fire on participants, as nothing more than a baseless provocation of internal contradictions that only serve the enemy's interests. It is evidence of the Authority's insistence on security coordination with the occupation and adherence to the understandings of Aqaba, as previously seen in the prevention of participation in the Martyrs Festival in Jenin camp.
