I was offered to play for Russia after Crimea (Hanna from Crimea). It was not even considered.
When I went to Rio, I objectively realized that I would fight for bronze. We understand that this bronze medal was also fought for by gymnast from Korea, who was training in Russia and who had already been promised this medal.
Even during Rio, we had little contact with Russians. For us, war started a long time ago. We were offended why we were not allowed to communicate with Russians, but somehow we always had this confrontation and we were taught - maximum greeting. It came to this, back in 2009. And after Crimea, what kind of communication? There was no communication at all.

At beginning of war, many gymnasts left for other countries and Irina Deriugina was bringing them back. She called parents and told them to come back to Ukraine because they are Ukrainian gymnasts, they are what they are today thanks to Ukrainian coaches. And there's an internal moment. For example, gymnast performs for Ukraine and gymnast performs for Italy, she will get more points for Ukraine. It matters what country you're from.

I can't say that everything is lite, we have strict coaches, but to be "introduced" to men - it never happened. We were even forbidden to communicate with men, if Irina Deriugina saw that someone gave you a ride or picking you up from training, it was a call to mom and dad.
We weren't allowed to go on vacation. My mom coach and she calls and asks: Can Annia go on vacation for a week? No, she can't, because every day - skip - step back, you want result - no vacation.

There should be some kind of course for athletes. When you leave gym where you spent 18 years, you don't know what to do, no one prepared you for normal life. I didn't even know how to open bank account.

GEF is giving away gifts for the New Year - During case, they sanctioned heads of Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation
Defendants:
• Mariana Vasileva, former AGF Rhythmic Gymnastics Head Coach and member of AGF Executive Committee;
Liable for various mistreatments and physical abuse against athletes, including beating for weight gain; for requiring athletes to perform or train when they were not fit to do so, so as to put gymnasts wellbeing and health at risk; for orally abusing and weight-shaming athletes; for withholding monies and/or rewards of athletes; for depriving and/or preventing athletes from having contact with their families and/or other private communication by depriving them of their mobile phone.
She shall be excluded from participation in any FIG activities and other international events for a period of 18 months, which sanction shall be suspended for 3 years; prohibited for life from being the head coach of any FIG-affiliated Federation; Prior to any return to FIG-regulated gymnastics, she shall be required, as precondition of her return, to undergo safeguarding training 3 months prior to her return to gymnastics to satisfaction of FIG; “Honorary Coach” Diploma awarded in 2019 shall be withdrawn
• Siyana Vasileva, AGF Rhythmic Gymnastics acting Head Coach, member of FIG Athlete Commission and ex member of FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics Technical Committee;
liable for hitting gymnast with a phone.
She shall be excluded from participation in any FIG activities and other international events for a period of 18 months, which sanction shall be suspended for 3 years;
As a condition of suspension of Siyana Vasileva’s period of exclusion, she shall:
— Undertake and satisfactorily complete training approved by GEF, in relation to good practice relating to behavioral awareness and safeguarding of children and young persons to be arranged and supervised by AGF, and report on which to be sent by AGF to FIG and GEF
— Undergo 12-month period of monitoring by a person agreed by GEF who is appointed by AGF, and report on which to be sent by AGF to FIG and GEF.

During decades preparing many top level gymnasts I observed that at some point they start to give signs that they would stop. Annaliese was the same case, at the beginning of the year we often had disscutions about her retirement after Paris. So, it's not a surprise. Moreover she did not announce the federation after Paris, that she wants to continue. Us as a coaches we felt sorry for her early retirement, Irina (Deleanu) even prepare some music routines for the new compositions 2025.
