A French-Armenian Soldier Killed in Mali
A roadside bomb killed three French soldiers Monday, according to the French government, which said their armored vehicle struck the explosive device in the Hombori region of Mali. Voice of America reports. The soldiers were part of France’s Operation Barkhane mission, which is fighting an Islamist extremist insurgency in Africa’s Sahel region.
They were working as part of a 5,000-troop mission "in an area where terrorist groups are attacking civilians and threatening the regional stability," according to Florence Parly, France’s defense minister. The French Defense Ministry has identified the soldiers as Brig. Chief Tanerii Mauri, 28, Fighters 1st Class Dorian Issakhanian, 23, and Quentin Pauchet, 21.
French President Emmanuel Macron reiterated in a press statement "France's determination to continue the fight against terrorism" and praised the efforts of the soldiers in restoring peace and stability in the troubled region. Forty-four other French soldiers have died since January 2013 when French troops began their mission in the Sahel.

There will be increase in financial support for the birth of children in Artsakh from January 1, 2021
The one-time payment for the birth of a child will be increased by 3 times to 300,000 drams (~ 574 $), previously the amount was 100,000 drams (~ 191 $).
The one-time payment for the birth of the second child will be increased by 1.5 times to 300,000 drams (~ 574 $), previously the amount was 200,000 drams (~ 382 $).
In a situation where one of the parents or the only parent has a disability at the time of the child's birth, the one time payment will reach 500,000 AMD (~ $ 957).
The monthly allowance for caring for a child under the age of 2 has been increased by 80% and will amount to 27,000 AMD (~ $ 51), previously the amount was 15,000 AMD (~ $ 28).

Armenian analyst on what Azerbaijan lost after the war in Nagorno-Karabakh
Azerbaijan agreed to Russia’s military presence in its territory (if we take into consideration the fact that Azerbaijan considers Nagorno-Karabakh a part of Azerbaijan). In addition, Baku agreed to the establishment of Turkish military bases in not only Nakhchivan, but also Ganja. This is what Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies at the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, Turkologist Ruben Safrastyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.
“We are actually seeing Azerbaijan lose a significant part of its sovereignty since the troops of two countries (Russia and Turkey) will be in its territories. Azerbaijan won the war, but it lost a significant part of its sovereignty as a result of the war,” he added.
Safrastyan noted that at the outset of the war, at the highest level, Turkey declared that it pictures cooperation with Russia in Nagorno-Karabakh through the Syrian model, but this was a failure, and Russia didn’t go to that.
“The South Caucasus is not Syria. It is a zone of Russian influence, and Moscow doesn’t intend to share anything with Ankara. Turkey aspires to deploy its troops along with Russian peacekeepers. In addition, Turkey wants to have the opportunity to pay visits and monitor. Of course, Russia won’t take that step. There will only be monitoring through technical resources, and the representatives of the monitoring center won’t have a chance to cross the border of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). Ankara will continue its struggle to expand the spheres of influence in the Caucasus through not only the factor of Azerbaijan against Armenia and Artsakh, but also through the use of the Turkey-Georgia-Azerbaijan political-economic axis. To counter this, Russia will aspire to maintain its influence in Azerbaijan because if Ankara tries to strengthen its positions in Azerbaijan, it will actually strengthen its positions in the South Caucasus, which isn’t in Moscow’s interests. Azerbaijan will also take into consideration Moscow’s interests,” the Turkologist emphasized.

Sergey Lavrov has commented on the post-armistice incident which happened in Nagorno Karabakh, when on December 13 the Azerbaijani military violated the ceasefire and attacked two villages – Hin Tagher and Khtsaberd, in the Republic of Artsakh.
In an interview to TASS, Lavrov said the incident had taken place in a location where at that time Russian peacekeepers were not deployed.
“There haven’t been any provocative actions against Russian peacekeepers so far,” Lavrov said.
“The only noticeable violation in the line of contact on December 13 took place in a location where there are no Russian peacekeepers. The steps initiated by the command of our peacekeeping contingent in contacts with our Azerbaijani and Armenian colleagues allowed us to avoid an escalation of the incident. We will further continue making all efforts to not allow ceasefire violations.”
Lavrov added that the situation in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict zone has a tendency of resolution.
