The 1933 National Socialist book burnings in Berlin, Germany on the night of May 10th, 1933 is often sighted as one of the many βcrimesβ committed by the National Socialists, and one of the biggest points in βNazi Censorship.β And with this, many historians will often say that they burned history and important literature, that they burned the future of Germany or some other form of nonsense.
But that is simply false. The NSDAP, although they did ban, and burn numerous books during their time, they didnβt ban books simply just based off the author, but by the ideas and morals that these books promoted. Many of which, were from jewish authors, and all promoted some form of liberal science or art, and foreign ideas such as the works of Karl Marx and his works promoting Marxist Socialism as one such example. But not all books were banned because they held different political views, but because they promoted degenerate ideas. One such example is Magnus Hirschfeld, a jewish-German physician and sexologist, who wrote various books promoting homosexuality and Transgenderism, and is often credited with being one of the more influential voices and leading figures in Transgenderism studies. Essentially, promoting degenerate ideas and values that simply did not belong and were completely incompatible with German Christian values.
βBut how bad could these books have really been for the NSDAP to have felt the need to physically annihilate it?β One look at Germany today only shows what these books would have led to back then. These books promoted weak, liberal ideas that conflicted with traditional German, and Christian values, that only bread weakness in a Nation that depended on Strong German Nationalist and Folkish values. Germany was already being crippled from the Great War and the absurd Treaty of Versailles, and surrounded by hostile neighbors fresh from the Great War and previous wars prior to. And now Germany was not only collapsing economically, but politically. With a weak government and the rise of hostile communists mostly contributed to this, which started with the works of Karl Marx, and other communist authors spreading their false ideas into Germany. Alongside communism, you have liberal literature which as stated above not only promoted weak ideas, and values, but poisonous values and ideas that would harm German culture and the German youth, the ideas of homosexuality, Transgenderism, Darwinism, and more, which were completely incompatible with Christian German Culture.
But there will always be those who will claim that βthe Nazis banned and censored books and individuals that didnβt align with their ideology!β Although technically speaking true, they banned books that wouldβve been poisonous to German culture and the German youth, books that promotes foreign ideas that conflicted with traditional German values. And those who dare say that Germany couldβve had great use for such poisonous literature is simply wrong, one good look at Germany today proves this to be factual that such ideas are only harmful to the nation and its people.
