An incident (June 10) in Nyack, New York, involved 71 eighth- and ninth-grade girls from a private jewish school in Monsey/Ramapo who "became lost while on an unauthorized field trip" to Memorial Park. The students supposedly "entered a large stormwater culvert carrying Nyack Creek, wandered deep into the interconnected underground drainage tunnels (often described locally as sewers), and emerged disoriented near downtown streets" after ~a quarter-mile.

A bystander alerted authorities, triggering a swift multi-agency rescue by Nyack Fire Department, Orangetown Police, Rockland Hatzolah EMS, Chaverim of Rockland, and other volunteers.
