Two peer-reviewed studies published in the last 12 months suggest it may also be a geroprotective agent, a compound that addresses multiple hallmarks of biological aging simultaneously.
The Emory and Baylor study found that psilocin reduces oxidative stress, improves DNA repair responses, and preserves telomere length.
These are mechanisms of cellular aging, not of consciousness or mood.
The Italian study identified the 5-HT2B receptor, distributed throughout the liver, gut, and metabolic tissue, as the driver of the metabolic effects.
Pcybin acted on peripheral receptors at doses producing no detectable central nervous system effects.
The psycdelic experience wasn't required.
The same study documented improved muscle strength and near-complete normalization of disrupted hepatic lipid pathways.
