-wide cranial sutures, and
-delayed ossification
-recurrent infections
-reduced C3 and IG
-poor prognosis not respond to steroids
-age of onset less than 3 yrs

When is meconium normally passed? -95–97% of healthy term newborns pass meconium in the first 24 hours. -Sick term infants and healthy preterm infants may not pass meconium for 3–5 day. #Pediatrics
What are D.D's in failure to pass meconium?
1. Hirschsprung disease
2. Meconium ileus
3. Meconium plug
4. Anorectal malformation or atresia (i.e., imperforate anus; )
5. Malrotation of the bowel
6. Small left colon syndrome in the infant of a diabetic mother
7. Maternal medication, especially magnesium sulfate

What are differences between Marasmus and Kwashiorkor?
Quick Notes
Causes of Pneumonia according to age. #Pediatrics
Most common cause according to age.
Quick Notes
Remember: -In nephrotic syndrome, proteinuria exceeds 3.5 g per day (4+ on a urine dipstick) and the urine is often macroscopically frothy. -In kwashiorkor, some proteinuria may be found but rarely exceeds 1+ on a dipstick test. #Pediatrics
Test to assess difference between Nephrotic syndrome and Kwashiorkor?
-Check Proteinuria.
There is no Proteinuria in Kwashiorkor!
There is no hyperlipidemia in Kwashiorkor. Cholesterol levels and triglycerides are reduced in Kwashiorkor while high in NS.
Others including clinical features of Kwashiorkor.

Neural tube defects represent a group of congenital defects, caused by incomplete closure of the neural tube within 28 days of conception.
The most common forms are anencephaly, spina bifida and encephalocele.
The main risk factors are maternal folate deficiency, maternal vitamin B12 deficiency, previous history of having an infant with a neural tube defect, smoking, diabetes, obesity, and use of antiepileptic drugs.
