Death doesn't just make me sad that someone died or because I know I will miss them. I think about how they may have felt in their last moments. How scared they were. How much pain they were in. If they died alone. I think about how the ones closest to them are hurting. How they can't quite catch their breath every time they are reminded of their loss. How grief slowly creeps up on them in the middle of the night when their mind is finally quiet enough to hear it. I get lost in memories. I drown in nostalgia. I grieve over the future that they won't be apart of. And after all that I start thinking about how we're all just star dust fused together into bone and flesh on a floating rock in the middle of a sea of stars and none of this matters in the long run. And yet in the short run all of this matters everything we do matters. Every mundane bullshit task matters in order for our survival. But what the fuck are we surviving for except perpetuating the bullshit by our biological need to reproduce? Like is this the meaning of life? My logical mind cannot fathom the endgame here and thus, the fucking point. And I've also learned if I'm not constantly distracting myself from this eternal shit show called "the human experience" I am bouncing between "everything happens for a reason" and complete and utter nihilism. And I don't know what's worse.
