Social Media Fast
A friend of mine encouraged me to take a break from social media to help with the brain fog I had been experiencing: memory issues, haziness, lack of focus, and an internal pressure in my mind.
The first thing I noticed is how my brain had been trained to process information. I sat at the table in between breaks at a gig I played and my eyes were darting everywhere around the room taking in everything that I was seeing, I was watching the people laughing, talking, flirting, sometimes dancing. I had nothing to do so I had to force myself to talk to others. I had interesting conversations. The next day I noticed my memory had improved and it seemed as though my mind had time to process the information that I had been studying and I had more focus, and a clearer grasp of reality. It was amazing how many times I would pick up the phone out of habit to look at social media, but I would just sit the phone back down. I played a lot of solitaire, listened to stand up comedy, went to church service, spent time at my father in laws, watched more stand up comedy, and played more solitaire.
But here is the main thing I noticed.
1. It was ok to not know what was going on around the world.
2. Life continued on.
3. The things that really mattered in life is what came to the surface. GOD, family, friends.
4. I now have a resolve to be more focused about what I am doing in life, and am aware of how distracting social media can be.
Whether it was GOD who led my friend to encourage me or not I give Him the glory for the results.
