Shanxi Crisis: Flash Floods Leave Over 1.75MN Displaced in Major Industrial Hub
Extreme rains and landslides have impacted almost two million people in Shanxi province, just months after flash floods in Henan left hundreds dead.
Ancient monuments in the region are at risk from continued heavy rain, while rescue efforts have been badly hindered. Reports suggest those stranded were instructed to lift children above heads and let the elderly be rescued first. Thousands of homes have been destroyed so far.
Shanxi is also a major region for coal production and chemical plants, compounding a deepening energy crisis in China. Power cuts have gripped several parts of the country, as Beijing restricts electricity usage. Operations have been halted at hundreds of mines, after a number of people died.

CHINA CRISIS: Evergrande execs “severely punished” for early redemption of wealth products as bond markets SLUMP
Chinese building behemoth Evergrande has reprimanded six unnamed executives who allegedly redeemed the company’s investment products early, despite returning all funds.
The six reportedly made early redemptions on 12 unspecified investment products between May 1 and Sept 7 as Evergrande battled to stave the impending $300bn liquidity crisis.
The news comes as Modern Land (China) Co Ltd, Ronshine China Holdings and Guangzhou R&F Properties Co saw 2022 and 2023 property bonds drop by 25%, 12.9% and 8.37% respectively.

China Carries Out Beach Landing Drills in Province Opposite Taiwan (Report)
The People’s Liberation Army announced that it had carried out beach landing drills directly across the South China Sea from Taiwan in “recent days” via a post in the PLA Daily newspaper’s Weibo account.
Troops were "divided into multiple waves to grab the beach and perform combat tasks at different stages" the post stated, without further details.
The exercises come just two days after President Xi Jinping said China’s reunification with Taiwan “must” be realized in a peaceful manner.
