⚡️Gas Price Freeze Needed to Avoid Decade of ‘Terrible’ Winters - EU Minister
Without a price cap, “the next five to 10 winters will be terrible,” according to Belgian Energy Minister Tinne Van der Straeten - also declaring, “the time for talking is over, now it is time to decide.”
A price cap could help cut skyrocketing energy bills by €770 ($770), according to the official, pressing the need for gas and electricity price reform.
The energy crisis is “no longer tenable for companies and families”, he added - “the European energy market is failing and urgently needs reform. Electricity is produced as cheaply as last year but sold at record prices”.

⚡️Iran Jails Two Swedish Nationals on Drug Trafficking Charges
Simon Kasper Brown was handed a 5-year sentence for smuggling 21,000 pills of the banned pain medication Tramadol and Stephen Kevin Gilbert received 8 years for trafficking 9.8kg of opium-based drugs. (Al Jazeera)
The sentencing puts further strain on already frayed relations between Tehran and Stockholm. Iran jailed two Swedish visitors on espionage charges earlier this year and an Iranian-Swedish academic has been held since 2016 – accused of allegedly spying for Israel.
Their cases come amid a landmark quest in Sweden to hold a former Iranian official accountable for alleged war crimes.
